Louis Carey on balance I think, Maynard blew hot and cold either very good or not interested Louis just carried on.
Haha couldn't agree more... Although the board, poor fan turnout, and abysmal training and match day facilities all factor into it as well.
Carey. Mr consistent and a model pro. Maynard was good for a season got giddy, played when he felt like it and mugged fans and club off.
All it was though was goals, when that bombed he didn't even look average. Emporers new clothes taking the piss.
Louis Carey consistently played at a level of performance above much younger men. Still does when called upon.
He changed games.. If the game was a drab, dull affair he'd stick one in the top corner. And as someone else said above me.. steven caulker.. best defender i've ever seen
For a short time, but actually not that good. Parts of his game were poor. Andy Cole could play at 50% effort at BCFC and get away with due to being class while Maynard became a passenger when he sulked for months. City were a better team when he was gone. Once City had men like Gow there should be no tolerance of wasters like Maynard.
Undoubtedly Maynard has been our best striker since we have been I the championship, Usually its the striker that makes the headlines as they are match winners, Which maynard was. Remember QPR at home. 1-0 maynard. Palace at home 1-0 maynard. Millwall at home 1-0 maynard. He was a class striker and he would of probably been best if he stayed and extended his contract here. Davies, Maynard, Baldock, Stead. Yes please. As has been said. Caulker is the best defender we've had in the championship by a country mile.
Maynard was not class. You confuse goal scoring with ability. At his best he was an attribute to score goals. Not at his best!!! His team play was suspect, couldn't work a channel, prowess in the air? No. Lead the line? No. Not the sort of player you would point out to a kid to watch and learn from. Class they say is permanent with Maynard it was a season.
Matter of opinion. Maynard off the ball was something special. He was a quality striker who was very intelligent. his best season came with Hartley, Someone who could feed him balls, But sadly Hartley didn't have the legs for every game and 90 minutes. See Middlesbrough and Newcastle for examples. Had Maynard had a young Hartley it would be safe to say he would of scored 18+ a season. I doubt now with his injuries we will ever see the maynard of 2009 again.
If you were scouting BCFC month to month he would have been an enigma, off his game little to suggest a threat and not the hardest to set up against. Excellent strike both feet, quick to get it out of his feet to set himself, but limited. Maynard biggest drawback was his attitude, massive drops in form which affected the touch he did have and at the end deciding he was too good to graft.
I would like to say Maynard, although IMO he rarely got the proper service for the type of striker he was, long balls over the top was down to lack creativity in the side. Most goals were wonder goals that he had to create himself. For consistancy, Has to be Louis for me. Best loan player, without doubt has to be Caulker
It was the consistancy of Louis that got my vote as well not the most flashy just always seemed to be in the right place at the right time just no longer young enough to be as consistant 46 games a season Had Caulker stayed for another year playing like he did would probably have been him though.
I appreciate what Louis has done for the club and he has been a great player, But is he seriously the best we've had since promotion?
He would have had to chase balls over the top and when off form [frequently] he became stationary rather than active. His pace is not sufficent to outpace many. He created many goal from fierce shooting from distance. He needed the ball frequently to feet, and it had to be to feet as he was not adept at dropping short, or working across. At the end playiong in a 4-5-1 he was dire, no touch, but above all no apetite. BCFC players this season have been critisised for their attitude, but Maynards utterly stank at his nadir, bickering with team mates, sulking whren not allowed to take "his" free kick, good riddance.
