I think there were a few that we maybe should have got, but don't think we did ourselves any favours - dropping too the floor far to easy all over the park. I would be more inclined to call the officials inconsistent if I was being kind or just plain poor if not.... Anyway - at least we aren't the only ones playing **** tonight....
Evening lads, had to record it a bit so stayed away. Adebayor - wtf? Abysmal performance, the worst performance I've seen from a spurs player in a long time. Did 1 good thing but otherwise didn't even look like an actual footballer
I honestly think our lads saw Bayern nearly messing it up last night and thought "pfft, call that messing up". Now Chelsea are doing their best to top all of us!
It gives AVB a chance to learn without too much lost. It might actually be the best result we could have got.
Not quite. City had 10 men, for ****'s sake. Their best player at the time, the delightful Joey Barton of all people, got sent off and we still managed to implode, somehow. Still, we're the first British side to progress in this stage of European games this season, so **** it! I have a feeling that I'm going to be swearing my head off at our team selection on Sunday, though. Shades of Redknapp's poor choices in the second half of the last campaign. Parker and Livermore doesn't work and neither does Defoe and Adebayor, plus the high line with no midfield pressing is suicidal. Nightmarishly bad choices.
Adebayor was so far NOT the worst Spurs player on that pitch!! Walker, Gallas, Naughton, Livermore, Defoe, Parker, even Dembele are well ahead of him. And he also managed to get the goal that got us through. Apart from that I agree with you 100% (And before anyone says it, he still wasn't that great!! Lol)
Well, good job squeaking through the Spurs way. The bright spots are that we're still alive, even if some of the fans no longer are. Ade is off the schneid, and maybe a big goal will get him started. Interesting how absolutely nobody dreams of taking off Gylfi anymore. I thought he was the best player for Spurs by some distance. Everyone does underestimate the rotten psychology of trying to defend a big lead. Bayern and Spurs were both nothing like themselves. (I think AC Milan's problems was more Messi than psychology). Having said that... Christ, that was ****. I have to agree the team selection was inexplicable. The 4-4-2 when defending a big lead? I just don't get it (though I ought to note my only criticism before the match was to wonder why Dembele was starting!). Carroll really, really should have started. How many odd-man breaks did we give up? I turned off the sound at the half, turned the game off at the second goal, turned it on again just in time to see Ade's goal, and turned it off again until the end. Games like this do not make you live any longer.
To be fair the ref didn't award them to the Italians either, at least he was consistant. The ref was Croatian, unless you get 30 bullets through the back in their league its 'no foul' play on.
Who goes put in a match like that with a game plan that appears to be 'don't worry lads, we'll score before they get 3.......'!!! I am hoping for a very penitent AVB after that nightmare. The fact we got through takes absolutely nothing away from an unmitigated disaster.
Close one lads, a big phew Through to the next round, mission accomplished Still, conceded 6 in the last two. Gotta be slightly concerning.
Just as well for Messi that he doesn't play in Croatia then. 'Cos I'm sure that's the only way to stop the ****er!
I thought the ref had a surprisingly good game actually, bar his booking for Livermore. Made the odd mistake, but didn't fall for half of the theatrics on display by both teams. Pretty old school for a European official and a strange choice for such a high profile game in the Europa, but I thought he handled it pretty well. Got a bit fussy at the end and kind of lost track of the time in the first period of extra time, but he came out of it ok, overall.
Yeah, but it took me a bottle of wine and five bottles of beer FFS. Oh yeah, a big **** off measure of Cognac as well.
I don't think AVB understands how to pick a squad to play 4-4-2 tbh. I was also very surprised to see young Holtby play like that. Is he carrying a knock or somesuch.
Mission PARTLY accomplished. It will be accomplished if we win it. Chelsea won the CL by skin of the teeth stuff and that was that for us so maybe just maybe. I have some advice to all the regulars,PNP,Spain,Croydon,Spurcat, perryman,Hiag and all the others. Look at the match and just think to yourselves after that we should have scored one more than we did. What we scored wasn't enough because that's what I'm doing. I went by the amount we effing well missed in the first leg and I was glad that I did.
