One or two Barry, but not too many. A good book to read about life as a footballer in those days has been written by Gary Imlach, the guy who does the Tour de France presenting on ITV. His father was Stuart Imlach the Nottingham Forest player who was a Scottish International, yet didn't receive a cap. He was finally awarded one after his death. Players in those days were often only employed during the season and had to find other jobs during the summer months.

I seem to remember that Rodney Green was jailed for drug smuggling after he finsihed playing football. Is this true?

Not sure about that NZ. He went off to South Africa after he finished playing for us, but I don't remember him getting jailed. There was an ex-player who was, but cannot recall his name.

Are you thinking of Dai Thomas? There have been some more recent bit players whose names I don't remember.

Will having a pope from Argentina make them want Falklandseyja more because they have God on their side now?

Blimey, it's mild in Iceland then AK - it was a ffrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeezzzing -4C in Bandit Country with a think frost when I left. But the sun has come up on a beautiful clear day in West West London - thanks for the frothy.

    Just a topical thought:

Argentina lays claim to the Vatican City on the grounds "there is a temporary Argentine population".

Morning all, think we must have had a little snow here overnight, but by the time I had my eyes functioning it was melting off the cars. ;)

"Paris and London to arm Syrian rebels, says French foreign minister." is the breaking news here this morning. It does seem as if there is a stalemate in that countries civil war with more and more civilians becoming caught up in the fighting. Not sure if this is the right thing to do or not, but something needs to change.

Mme is out having her whiskers twiddled, so might have a go at my French homework after several more cups of coffee. Large dictionary is close at hand.<yikes>

.A bit of a suspect character was Mr French - or Lafite as he later changed his name to - but I have to admit that he was a damn fine winger. In the mould of Scully, but obviously not quite as good. :)

And I seem to remember that our Bobby Howfield got himself into a spot of bother with New Yorks's finest after going there to play grid iron for the New York Jets, can't remember much about it though.

Morning all, thanks for the coffee AK. Cold, clear and sunny here in eastern bandit country this morning. So did everyone enjoy seeing Jim Bowen being announced as the new pope? Was funny to see his Wikipedia page had been edited/undo/edited/undo/edited/undo all night and morning as people try to add his new job title!!! <laugh>

I would have loved it if to start his first speech he simply raised his hands to the sky and said "Super, lovely, smashing, great". Followed by parading the other cardinals in front of everyone and stating "here's what you could have won" <laugh>
