When you consider that we were a D3/L2 side when they were with us, and 1 is now a regular starter in the Championship and the other is one of the top scorers in L1 it's probably fair to say that at that point in time the setup was doing a decent job, especially if you add in Adam Bolder coming through around the same time. We didn't cash in on them as you would hope to do, but it was good for us at the time with the situation we were in with us having a PL Leeds poaching the best young players. Crewe owe their existence to being able to produce on average 1 player a season that they could sell to a higher league.
