In short term, Villa beating QPR may suit us, but it may suit us better at the end of the season if QPR win the games against the lower sides. One of life's little mysteries....would like QPR to go down, but any three other teams will do.
Not sure anyone can keep them up so it's all about planning for next season. You need some-one with experience of getting teams promoted.
But wouldn't that have meant giving up on survival this season? Keeping McDermott would have meant resigning themselves to relegation whereas in reality, They are only 4 points adrift with 27 points to play for.
Apparently their academy coach. Wiki says he had to give up playing for Exeter due to Cancer. An undistinguished footballer, but doesn't mean he's not a decent coach. Tough two games for him. This really makes little sense...why didn't they have a manager in waiting before sacking McD?
Probably best scenario, just hope QPR don't get another win. We really need to get something today, I've got a feeling we will.
I don't want to be rude as I have a soft spot for Southampton and don't want to see them relegated. But I have to say I think Reading are just going down the same route as Cortese has done.I really wish you had kept Adkins.

At least, Nicola had the sense to have a manager waiting. He learnt what can happen without a manager after binning Pardew. We will never know what Nigel could have achieved with us, so we just move on.
Not really. Adkins was replaced because despite the fact he very likely would have kept us up, there was a replacement lined up who Cortese believed would be more likely to carry out his long-term plans of taking us to the opposite end of the table. McDermott was sacked because he wasn't going to keep Reading up and they had no plans nor a replacement ready to take over, it was purely a short-term desperation move. I don't think either deserved to be sacked but they are still entirely different scenarios.
Maybe the new manager is lined up/agreed but they didnt want to throw him in just before 2 impossible away games against Man Utd and Arsenal? I wouldn't mind betting that the new manager isn't appointed until a few days before Arsenal and takes official charge for the Saints game. Now that would be interesting if it is Adkins.
I think today's results are going to be very interesting. I can't see Reading getting anything than a good hiding and they will finish bottom. Wigan will beat Newcastle but the most important game will be a Villa Park where I can see the QPR resurgance continuing. QPR are playing with confidence and you get the impression that the team do not feel they will be relegated. I can't see them going down and Harry has turned them around completely. (I wonder how many Saints fans would have preferred him to return to St. Marys and to have similarly transformed our fortunes. I can't stand him but he is the best English coach by a country mile and there is no disputing his ability in this respect. Probably only second to Fergie is ability for s British manager at the moment.) As for Saints, I think it is a tough call. See have played well against some of the better teams this season but I am wondering if the inability to pick up three points will play on the player's mind. I think it will be another draw.
I think I would take a QPR win today in the hope that they wouldn't win more than three on the bounce. Reading and Wigan to lose and us to scrape a win and suddenly we are 5 points clear plus goal difference. That would abe a great table at the end of today. I had a play with the BBC predictor and have us finishing 10th with 44 points. This is with a few losses in there as well. I had Reading, Villa and Wigan down. QPR staying up on 36 points. Reading I only had on 24 points and looking at their run in they really will struggle to get much more than that.
