Mark Kermode (film critic and a non-F1 fan) has praised the upcoming Senna film and has said it is sensational which is good news because it shows that the film will appeal to not only F1 fans but also people who are not interested in the sport. Empire have also tipped it for next years best documentary oscar. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/markkermode/2011/05/sennasational.html A heads up for people who are interested, the director of Senna, Asif Kapadia will appear on the BBC 5 Live film review show on Friday (20th) 14:00-16:00 to talk about the film, I expect that they will also give a more detailed review of the film in the show as well. Personally I can't wait for the film to come out (3rd June for anyone who does not know), I have been waiting for it to come out for about a year now.
Why's there been such a delay with it? Sick of hearing the Five Live commentators boasting about how many times they've already seen it.
I don't know why they have decided to release it in the UK so late, they released it in Japan at the Japan GP in October and it was released in Brazil in November, it is also being released in Germany and France before UK as well. I agree about how annoying it is that the media keep going on about how many times they have seen it, I think James Allen said he has seen it 8 times now.
I'm pleased to hear that. I have a lot of respect for Mark Kermode and I'm really looking forward to seeing the film. It does seem to have been coming forever though, without ever getting here! We get a lot of films later than most countries; I've never understood why. I'm glad to read that it's a film with an appeal beyond its obvious target audience, like the best documentaries.
Hopefully it will be worth the wait, and judging by Mark Kermode's review, it is a must-see. I can't wait to see it.
****ing hell, they're on about it again. "I've seen it now", "oh, welcome to our club, how many times have you seen it?", "just the once", *smugly* "I've seen it twice". Bastards. Knew I should've been born in Japan.
Why don't you just download it like the rest of us? Jake Humphrey tweeted the 5Live review is at 2pm-ish. I'm sure Crofty said 3pm.
Didn't know you could download it. Now it's only two weeks away I might as well wait and watch it at the cinema.
James Allen said it's definitely a big screen experience but a) I hate the cinema and b) I think that probably only applies if the theatre's full (of F1/Senna fans), which I can't see being the case at my local cinema.
Why don't you like the cinema? I think James Allen means when he says it is a big screen experience is being able to watch F1 footage on a cinema sized screen and cinema surround sound.
So now a random blind guy has seen it before me, come on. Maybe I should text the BBC saying I am blind, deaf and dumb to try and bag a special screening.
The picture's poor compared to TV, the volume is either too high or too low (in a single film - how do they manage that?), the other people are annoying, the snacks/drinks are either 90% sugar or 90% salt and cost 5x what they should, ticket prices are ludicrous, staff are morons, adverts are excruciating, seats are not my couch, and I hate the movie industry.
IMDB rates the film 8.8 out of 10, which is exceptional: the same as the original Star Wars and higher than Taxi Driver (8.6) and No Country for Old Men (8.3). Sennasational indeed.
