Being as I create a few non football related posts about the Swansea Bay region, I thought I would instead create one thread for all this rubbish. To start off, probably the biggest single development in the Swansea Bay itself.... ever. http://www.tidallagoonswanseabay.com/film.aspx If this happens, it would probably look awesome!
the bay looks great....now its the fingers crossed part for global warming!! looks like your never gonna be a cannes chuck in room 101
Aye, some of us knew it would be a disaster to put a Cardiff based company in charge of organising it. Thank god AMRSITA is all but defunct now.
Good one VRD! My oldest boy is very interested in this project, as he's studying Civil Engineering at Swansea UNI, hope it comes off, and there are no duff Kairdiff contractors involved!............
Aye, hope he gets a job with this because they are after local talent. With this on his CV he will be head hunted due to the experience he will gain for the first one being built, and when one is built... others follow. Your boy could work anywhere in the world and I expect Canada would consider building one as they have the only tidal range bigger than ours, but even bigger cash would be Garnet Point in Maine as the Americans would no doubt want to get in on the act as well and by god do those guys pay well for this sort of thing!!
...........so no foreign workers vd .......you must be mad 2 think they wont take cheap labour infront of locals.......if its run like your football club i wouldnt hold your breath for jobs>>><lee lucas can back me on that un lol>
It would probably cost more to get foreign workers moved here, then paying them minimum wage, housing them, feeding them, getting them a place to stay... than it would be just to get British workers to work at their normal rates. And besides, this is Wales... we are cheap labour! And besides, who said you could go on the offensive on this "Swansea only" project... get back to your waterfront in Cardiff, there is a mud flat on the beach you need to sort out!
im not sure what country your in at the moment dude but it doesnt sound like wales..............the foreign based labour is already here,no need 2 ship them over,if you didnt hear europe is open and britain has been getting its fair share of migrants......come on dude open them fking eyes for once ps if u didnt notice im from aberdare and couldnt give 2 fks if cardiff had a bay or not bays aint my ting
If it proves feasible I would love to see this, it's gonna take a huge amount of sand so is it going to have an effect on the sand disappearing from beaches and what impact will it have on tidal currents, if they can sort it then book us a place to fish lol
sussex ive been watching the sand disappear down in port eynon for the last 6yrs,its mostly mud when the tides out ..........lets hope a bay in swansea doesnt effect the gower coastlines beaches
Strangely enough I was down Port Eynon last summer, the tide was somewhat in but there was still loads and loads of sand on the beach. There was a study by a Sussex University that revealed it takes two years for the sand and other sediment levels to recover, it would appear the real problem would be sustained dredging over the course of a decade or more as that could lead to heavy metals being exposed (???). They also explain that initially, for the first year after completion of dredging, opportunists move in to the affected area and increase the population above that which is was in it's natural state before the ecosystem levels out again. No idea what the opportunists are supposed to be, I know for land that would be ferns and mosses, as for marine life I am lost.
vd u couldnt have walked from the top end where people sun themselves, down 2 the water dude......i can tell you that it is mud nothing more nothing less just 100percent mud......i know cos i spend most of my summer on the gower coast
