I would disagree, the first goal gave us a lift and belief that we could win, his work rate throughout the match was very good and there was no doubt about the penalty, he was in with a chance of scoring had he not been brought down. The winning goal argument you have is valid but with Suarez his work rate creates opportunities he may not get the crucial goal but you can be sure that he has had a part in it. At this point I think Suarez has just pulled ahead in the player of the year stakes with RVP just behind him I don't see Bale getting it and nothing is set in stone yet plenty of games to play.
Even yesterday against Spurs he dived to get a dodgy pen. I think it is this that would put off the writers and the players. I would be most surprised if he did win it.
Like when Sturridge admitted to diving against City and alot of the users on your board were still saying it wasn't a dive BTW I think it was a pen but Sturridge certainly dived yesterday.
There may not have been any doubt about the penalty, but from the highlights that was pretty much all he did as a goal threat in the second half. He does have a great work rate, but so do a great many players. Ultimately, whenever I've seen Liverpool play it always seems like in the last half an hour of the game Suarez is as likely to get frustrated and niggly as he is to get a vital goal. As for it being a goalscoring chance, Suarez seems to miss far more late chances than he scores. Has he actually scored any goals in the last 20-30 minutes this season? He seemed to get a few earlier on this season, but then since about October he hasn't had a major impact during what is often the most important part of the game.
Suarez won't win it, as he's less popular than vaginal warts amongst non kopites. He may well be a very good player, but he's a first rate horror & for that reason he won't pick up the award.
You may be right I'm not sure of how many winning goals or late goals he has scored. At the end of the day though he is top scorer at the moment and playing well where RVP is off the boill, unless that changes and RVP gets firing again Suarez should get the award. RVP is a class player and I'm sure it will go to the wire.
not really, just because he scores against middle or smaller team doesn't mean he will win the award, he has to do it against big games too, like for example what has he done against us this season? nothing, but RVP always had a good games against all the big teams in the league and he should deserve to win it. I'm also sure Van Persie will get firing again, i'm sure he will.
Suarez is just a big fish in a small pond. To say he is player of the year because he is the best scouser player is just nonsense. Bale and RVP are far better than him and deserve the award more. To give the award would diminish the award. How can people even think of rewarding a cheat for he constant attempts at diving? When the score was 2-2 I thought that he was going to do everything to get a pen. The last player to deserve the POTY and a bad example to young players.
agreed and like i said before he doesn't make any impression against big teams too unlike RVP who scored against all he big teams in the league,
Just realised now - Suarez has five assists in the PL this season, and four of those are from winning penalties. For a supposedly creative player he sure doesn't create many goals from open play.
Liverpool seem to have been running a campaign to get him the award. Rodgers has been prattling on about it for weeks and now Gerrard has chipped in. I guess they consider it a trophy? As for only getting assists from penalties, you do realise he's not an out and out striker. No, hang on, that doesn't make sense.
Of course I realise it. Suarez can't be an out and out striker, as they only score goals and get very few assists. Like RVP who only has eight assists this season. Or Rooney and Walcott with ten apiece. Hang on a sec...
It is a bit nuts how POTY has become their big target for the season. Can't remember anyone from Utd or Spurs even bothering to comment on it, yet Liverpool's manager, players and ex-players seem to bring it up at any chance they can. Smacks a bit of desperation imo - if he was that nailed on for the awards then why would you have to bother plugging him so often. Or is it just part of the "We love you Luis, please don't leave us" campaign?
