Good, I can only see this making them worse. I'm with Staines on this, I don't care who else goes down and how unlucky they are as long as we stay up. And when I see those 'good luck for the rest of the season' posts to very civil visitors to our board (quite a few after Saints I think) from any other club that could in the wildest of circumstances be relegated, the word 'fibber' drifts through my mind. A pox on all their houses.
In any other season I'd have agreed with you mate but in a season where we've seen managers sacked for being 4 points off top spot, managers sacked after coming back from 2-0 down to earn a draw at The European Champions nothing surprises me anymore. The Palermo manager Gasperini was appointed in September, sacked at the beginning of February, reappointed manager at the end of February and has just been sacked now so if its any consolation the Italians are even more crazy it seems I think it's just PR and McDermott has been used as the scapegoat by the Reading board despite lack of transfer funds. Had they sacked him soon after relegation they'd have taken a battering. I actually think Reading have overachieved and should be cut way adrift given their squad. It seems the TV deal means clubs are getting desperate to stay in the division.
McDermott was January Manager of the Month, now he's toast. Yes, he did overachieve with that squad and they are as good as down now, but they'd be down already without him...
would that be the same European Champions who got knocked out the qualifying group this year against poor opposition and embarrassed the premiership
Juventus are a very good side, Shaktar were good until they sold their best player but all the English clubs have done poorly, back on topic though I do think the McDermott sacking was harsh, the new manager that comes in will face back to back trips to Arsenal and United, I can't see the logic in this at all but it's bad news for anybody tha has to play Reading, especially away from home
I think PDC would as he goes from L1 to the NPC with parachute money. Adkins has done enough to get another job in the PL. Hes also in a legal dispute with Saints while PDC was at Readings last game.
On the other hand, taking the lead is more likely to leave the natives restless, Saints fans are already wondering if they are any better off and Matt Lucas was well liked by Reading fans.
Saints need a win from either Liverpool or Chelsea at home because momentum is definitely with Villa, QPR and Wigan now, the Reading game becomes massive for them. Unlike with Southampton who I believe had a good squad to work with, it's hard to see why a PL manager would want to go to Reading. With respect, Reading are goners IMO. I just can't see how they will get the sufficient points required given they still play United, Arsenal, City and Liverpool. And I could see QPR and Saints both beating them with ease. If you can stop cross ins from wide areas you pretty much stop Reading. They seem to have only one method of scoring (albeit it works) but no method for stopping goals. The 2nd Villa goal is one of the worst I've seen conceded in my time watching football at this level, managers train their players all week but you can't legislate for defending like we saw for that goal. Sympathies are with McDermott
Ah now rrrs, that's not looking at the situation in its entirety. Firstly, the fact that they're in the Prem at all is in itself quite a feat considering that he had a good deal less money to play with than his competitors in the Championship. Secondly, the fact that they're even still in with a shout of staying up and not being destroyed like the Derby's, Sunderland's, Watford's etc of the past is still more an indication of the man's good work. And thirdly, we must remember that three Clubs must be relegated every season. Now, with that in mind, if the three that go down happen to be the three "smallest" Clubs with the least amount of resources, how then could it be said that they did bad or failed? For example, I think Blackpool did tremendously well the year they were up even though they went back down. Judging by finances etc, they had no right to be as competitive as they were. I would regard Reading to be in that kind of category. Who won the game of golf by the way, rrrr's?
This I cannot see how bringing in a new manager when you have 9 games left with ManU/Arse next and City/Liverpool at home, Thats 4 games that they won't get any points from, not to mention the others? You can't make 'hope' (sorry) play like Van Persie or 'Legs' like 'Lampard' they are just like Wolves from last season.
we will beat Reading no problem, the time we play them the new manager will be thinking about next season in the championship
Mate a few weeks ago a few on their forum were saying they would be relegating us in that game? funny how the tables have turned and it could be us putting them down?
I only look at it as 1 space (rather than us) just need another 2 teams now. they should have sacked him about the time Hughes went and they may have a had a better chance.
Dont worry RTID i won't get carried away. Still a long way to go but i think if we beat Villa we will be okay.
