We have the same players, but we don't have the same intent, ambition, freedom or faith in the players. Is it any wonder the defence is better, we play with 10 behind the ball. Where is the tactical and managerial skill in that? It's total bollocks
At the time of your original post we had conceded one, yes one goal more than last season. That hardly constitutes a worse defence. If it had been nine or ten goals more then you may have had a point. However, after todays game your argument falls flat on its face. Last season, after 29 games we had conceded 46, this season after 29 games we've conceded 45. Therefore using your logic and the same stats you used, we now have a much better defence than last season as we've conceded less goals this season after the same amount of games.
I couldn't agree more Carrabuh. Nobody, yet nobody, will convince me that the dire rubbish served up yesterday is progress on last season. By ' parking the bus ' we somehow got a point at home against a team beneath us in the league and you know as well as I do that we will try and do the same thing next week, the week after etc.etc. If that is progress, defensively or otherwise, then I have misunderstood the meaning of the word.
Sorry Dazz, the point I was making was that everyone seems to be saying we've sorted our defence out, when the figures (facts) prove that to be untrue. 1 goal different either way from last year is neither here nor there, but if our defence has improved as much as we all seem to believe then surely we should have conceded a lot lot less than last year?
I'm sorry ILD, but you're original post saying our defence was worse than last season stated this There was only on goal in it when you made your original point and you were using that as a basis that the defence was worse. I understand that you're trying to point out that we would have conceded a lot less if the defence had been significantly improved, however you can't initially say that the defence is worse because we've conceded more than last season and when I use the same figures (facts) as you to say the defence has improved, dismiss my point because one goal different either way from last year is neither here nor there. The fact is we look a lot more solid at the back and a lot less likely to conceded, 11 clean sheets in 35 league and cup games with John Ruddy missing 26 of those backs this up.
Dazz, I said the goals against was worse than last season, not that the defence was worse this season. You're right to pick me up on the comment about the single goal not being here or there, all I was trying to put forward was that if the defence is 'sorted' as a lot of people keep saying then why haven't they conceded less. I can't accept that the clean sheets are of any importance, when we've conceded the same amount of goals, have a worse goal difference and are in a lower position with less points than last season. Sorry it's the way I see it.
Zillionaire Zingarevich's treatment of Brian McDermott is the latest sign that Monopoly may soon replace football as the national sport.
I find when I watch norwich with this defence i dont find myself ****ting myself when our defence is in possession at the moment. last season it was pretty much a mistake a match that cost us a goal... if you look at the type of goals we conceded last season compared to the ones conceded this year, there are so so many less huge errors, obviously still one or two, but so many less. less penalties too. I just feel bassong and turner etc are so much calmer in tight situations, copared to barnett and whitbread and de laet
The defence does seem better until we concede. Then we tend to fall apart. This doesn't seem to be because we then open up in an effort to equalise and expose ourselves to counter attacks. It feels more as if the players lose heart because they know there isn't a plan B and the game is lost (Notice I say AS IF - I've had lots of people on here criticising me for unjustifiably reading the players' minds, so I want to make clear that this is just an impression I get.)
