Exactly, hes proven hes good enough for the NPC by winning it but theyve left it too long to sack him so they wont be able to get a PL standard manager because its 90% sure they will be in the NPC next season. Do it at NY or not at all. I thought we left it too late and that still could be the case if we go down by 6 points or less.
Just as Leeds fans are starting to look at the playoffs as a possibility again. If it were Norwich looking for a manager I could believe it, but not Reading. As for McDermott, I'm not sure he really knew what he was doing, he benefitted from the quality of players available to him rather than anything he did (and the money from the takeover allowing him to sign Roberts). He was whinging away about our goal at their place last season saying it was clearly offside and that if they're going to change the rules like that they could at least send someone to explain it to managers and players. Now that would have been fine, but on our forum I was saying the goal "should" have been offside, but that the rules as they were say that it's onside. And their club captain was out injured so he was commentating on the game. At the time of the goal he was singing the linesman's praises for an excellent decision and said that it was exactly as it had been explained to him in preseason by the referee that visited the club. (apparently a ref visits every club at some point to go through any changes or questions players have about the upcoming season)
Hughes until the end of the season maybe? Problem with that is that he won't give up the cash cow that is QPR ... as long as he stays out of work.
Sad to see Reading go down the Chelsea route. Saw their owner on TV last night and something didn't add up. Not his fault being born into the family he was but his dad has a certain reputation: http://rumafia.com/person.php?id=204
Strange decision as I can't see a new manager getting as much as BM got out of those players . If the owner was spent big why not in the jan window ?
Hughes will get less money by going to them but the longer he stays away, the less chance there is of him getting any job. His stock is now that of an NPC standard manager. Burnley, Ipswich or Hull, sorry Ricardo.
That will suit 70% of their plastic fans. His Dad was No1 Mafia boy at one stage on one of those sites. Reading don't employ people with carisma. Just take a look from the Owner to Madjetski to Coppell to Matt Lucus to the players.
... and Hughes has a duty at law to mitigate his damages, so if he doesn't apply for jobs, he may undermine part of his claim against QPR
It's ok, if that's his standard you can just bring him back to replace Harry in the summer when he jumps ship. Save you the payoff for Hughes then.
Mind you, if Hughes did get the Reading job and he and Joorabchian stitched up the owner like they did TF they'd probably both end up in concrete overcoats...
I've played golf a few times with a Reading player & he told me the extent of BM's team talk/ tactics for that weeks game. "Let's get it into their third & hope to get free kicks & corners"
Well whatever he did, it worked wonders for them. This mate of yours, wouldn't happen to be a guy that didn't get in the team by any chance? This sacking is reminiscent of Wolves last season. Admittedly Wolves should have been in a better position considering it was their third season up but hindsight shows that sacking McCarthy was a disastrous decision. This one is, if anything, more baffling. Both Adkins and McDermott have been treated shamefully as was COLIN before them.
I agree with Tramore Mc Dermott is a decent bloke and has given loyal service to Reading best of luck to a fellow Irishman.
My contact at Reading says that he is a 'top bloke' and the players love him. Went out of his way to sign auto's for he kids and was really liked at the club. sadly football is about results not how nice you are.
Whilst I agree to an extent re Warnock - he was the only one of the three who had seemed to have lost the dressing room. The MK Dons away cup tie (Warnocks last game) was a shambolic performance and it actually looked like Warnock knew his time was up. Several of us at the game said he was off, and a day later he was. I think it was unfortunate though as he had worked wonders for the club, but certain players he brought in for the PL had divided the dressing room. But regarding McDermott and Adkins, both have been treated very badly as both teams were clearly behind the manager.
He is of Irish parents and one day hopes to manage the Irish Republic Team maybe Trap will stand down?
Not sure either of them would actually take the job at the moment....during the summer yes, but with 9 games to go they are on a hiding to nothing. It is likely that Reading could end up in the same situation as Wolves last season with the assistant in charge because nobody else is interested....
