He sure is - since it's posted publicly on the Mirror website there should be no problem posting it here - https://twitter.com/mirrordarren However, he's a black guy, so I think a lot of people would react the wrong way if you called him a racist!
I don't necessarily mean him, or this, but there's been an awful lot of the "laugh at the foreigner" type reporting with regard to Mauricio, mainly due to the language barrier (I'd love to hear these journalists attempts at Spanish) which has been mildly uncomfortable.
Yeahhh I know what you mean, just wondered if you planned to bring it up with him on Twitter - you know what some people are like! But yeah, there's very much a, "look at him, he uses a translator, LOL!" theme going around. It doesn't help that it gets exaggerated, with suggestions that he still can't speak a word of English.
This is probably why Mauricio isn't being brave and using some English at pressers. The questions are often complicated if it isn't in your first language and even the interpreter struggles to get some questions into Spanish. Man City's manager isn't exactly fluent and he has been here for some time. MP needs intensive lessons and he probably doesn't have time at the moment.
And there's no doubt that the journalists, having it in for him/NC, will purposefully use difficult language, for sure.
English also has many words for the same thing with only subtle differences in meaning. MP was asked if he was grateful to Pardew for the players he'd signed. MP immediately said no, because he took it literally as meaning he owed something to Alan. The interpreter said it was a hard concept in Spanish and took ages to explain to MP that being grateful did not mean actually thanking someone. Back to thread, having looked at replays of our players surrounding the ref, the Norwich players may not have meant to but they actually prevented it getting worse by placing themselves between our players and the ref.
I somehow think that if the Premier League were to do something about the quality of the Officials, then the kind of scenes we saw yesterday wouldn't happen, the "offside" decision against Swansea was an amateur mistake and has no place in the top League of football.
Incidently, i went to sleep on Saturday night watching a dodgey link of the England New Zealand test match, and woke up in the morning to Poch doing an interview in English. Of course lots of 'Umming and arring', but to suggest he cannot speak English is wrong, and it seems like before long he'll be doing his interviews for English television, in English.
If we're expecting misconduct action over this, then clearly nobody in the FA has ever watched a Premier League game before.
The incident with Clattenburg was something and nothing.I can see why your players protested,it might have been better for your manager not to have got involved though, especialy as it had already been saved.
Yeah I agree. We'll have to wait for the ref's report to see if Pochettino stepped over the line, but he seemed a lot calmer than the players were anyway (and is there really a rule prohibiting managers from going on the pitch after the final whistle?) Something most people seem to have missed is that the players' protests did actually lead to the referee consulting the linesman. On another day, that leads to the decision being overturned. The same thing happened in our game against Pompey last season with Billy Sharp's 'offside' goal. Our players made a huge fuss, the referee consulted the linesman, and we were given the goal. Now, I'm not against the referee consulting with the linesman, far from it, but if referees are going to appear doubtful after getting hassled by the players, that's going to encourage more incidents like this. Besides, if there is enough doubt in his mind to be influenced by the players, he probably should have sought confirmation of his decision anyway before giving the penalty.
The difference with that one was that the referee overruled the assistant. The assistant gave the offside but the referee saw it had come off a Pompey player and therefore gave the goal.
