http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/redknapp-says-his-gamble-on-park-paid-off? 09/03/2013 By David McIntyre QPR manager Harry Redknapp said a risky decision to play Ji-sung Park in the centre of midfield paid off against Sunderland. Rangersâ 3-1 victory at Loftus Road boosted their survival hopes and set up a pivotal game at fellow strugglers Aston Villa next weekend. They went behind before Loic Remy levelled with his third goal for the club, and second-half strikes by Andros Townsend and Jermaine Jenas sealed the points. Redknapp declared: âIt was a good performance. We started the game well and I thought we were the better side in the first half, but we suddenly found ourselves 1-0 down. âThey were the better team for 15 minutes or so in the second half but we got back in it and got two goals. âIâm pleased Loic Remy is scoring goals â heâs a finisher â and it was a good all-round team performance.â He added: âI took a gamble by playing Ji-sung Park as one of two in midfield â he usually plays wide or in a three. The two of them [Park and Stephane Mbia] were fantastic. âWe played with two out-and-out wingers and two strikers and I liked the look of us. We looked like an attacking force and thatâs the best Iâve seen us going forward.â Rangers remain four points adrift of 17th-placed Villa, who beat Reading. But, coming after last weekendâs victory at Southampton, the win was another indication that Redknappâs team may yet escape the drop. He said: âWe still need to have a fantastic run, but weâve given ourselves a chance. âWeâre capable of having a decent run, so I think there are teams above us who may be sucked in. âThis win has done us the world of good and kept us in touch. We just have to keep being positive and have a go.â
Because he hates Park. Mbia and Park had to cover 4 midfielders as we were basically 424 with the ball and when we lost it, we didnt get overrun (which is due to Park and Mbia) except for the set piece.
Park did s.f.a. apart from try, and I love him! We didn't get overun because Hoillet, Townsend, the back 4 and especially M'bia played like heroes, and we got through with the equivalent of 10,5 men out there. Plus Sunderland were poor. If I had to choose a MOM from the many excellent performances Saturday it would have to be M'bia's - great work rate, great tackling & interceptions, passes were accurate at last and they weren't just safe 5 yarders, he made dangerous surging runs with the ball, and he got in at least 2 shots one of which their Keeper couln't hold.
Park played exactly the same as Mbia but you cant admit it because you hate him and cant give him credit for holding the midfield together in a 424 vs a 451 in the second half.
Park has been quite bad for most of the season but I think in the last two games he has done OK and is starting to rediscover his form. I think that there isn't any doubt that he probably had a crisis of confidence this season but hopefully that is behind him. You have to give him credit for his tenancity that set up Betty for a tap in against Southampton.
Exactly how i see it, its stupid to say he hasnt done well recently, its the same as saying he has been superb all season. clearly not true.
As I said of course I don't hate Park, it is ridiculous to repeatedly say that - I don't even know him! I don't see that he gave us anything Saturday, for me he was totally inneffectual, and disappeared for the central portion of the game. Apart from that he tried as evidenced by him running round off the pace of the game, with Sunderland players skipping past him, he did none of the things I described the excellent M'bia doing, and the only thing he held together was staying on his feet for this game.
You havent posted a single thing about park without banging on about how poor he played or how he should be dropped, literally every mention of him is negative.
He has been poor at times but that doesn't make him a bad player and history on here about him wasn't right at the time. In the end I am certain that many will look at QPR and see that buying a foundation is very very risky as the players have to gel into a team. I have never doubted our players and if you look at other team around us I hope you are beginning to see that we may have the quality above other team who in my opinion are beginning to look very ordinary and regaining form or a team spirit from rock bottom is a far harder thing to do than keeping a false bubble going. Confidence is everything at this level and if you get a foundation of belief growing solid then I am certain you will see out squad's worth. Arguments about effort don't wash with me as you can try too hard and it will require cool heads to build on our recent push players like Park, Bosingwa, Granero, Fabio all have teh quality when it may count.
Martin O'Neill agrees with you Dave (and so do I): " If it comes off [survival] well done the owner........they have a lot of talent at their disposal, so in essence I don't think we don't possess the same type of talent...." Hardly a morale booster for the Mackems.
Well I praised Park a lot for his great play in creating Betty's goal last week. That was excellent half minute of play from him. Otherwise for me he has been a waste of a postion every time and every position he has been played in. When/if I think he plays well I will say so, as I did with Green after his excellent performance when he came on at Saints, and in other games he has featured in since Harry came in. I thought Green was an appalling nervous wreck at the start of the season, a very bad signing, and I said it how I saw him then - he was worse then than Park as far as you can compare outfield players and keepers. But Harry seems to have given Green his confidence back, and he has shown he still has the ability.
Oslo I haven't seen the game in full yet so apologises but Park's game is all about what he does without the ball and he has a natural talent PSV and Man U know this so should we
Surrounded by world class players at Man U he did play well harrying off the ball, and winning it for others and occasionally picking up scraps they created, but for me it seems he has lost at least the pace he had then, which is probably why Ferusen sold him. He is continually off the pace of the game now. Harry may have given Park some of his confidence back, as he has done with others, Green, Townsend, Jenas, Betty maybe, Hoillet, at least, but if his zippy pace has gone, with his limited technical abilty Park is going to struggle even if he is feeling better about himself.
He was poor again IMO. Running around like a headless chicken in the middle third without actually touching the ball does not make for an effective performance. I noticed him dropping deeper and taking up the typical Shaun Derry position after half time but if it comes to a choice between Park and Derry as defensive cover then there really is no contest.
