Wigan v Blackburn/Millwall. One of those will get the FA cup place, assuming Chelsea finish in the top four. We'll see.
Pretty sure that it's only the winners - if the winners are already in Europe then it goes to next place in the league (6th) in this case?
Both Arse and Chels falling apart . You might just pip them for a CL place . Need to buy a few player if you do get in the CL .
Sorry my mistake - however 5th place goes directly into the group stages rather than the qualifying. Normally the FA cup winners would go into group but the runners up only go into qualifying.
Either way a Championship club will be playing in Europe next year - going out nice and early and making our co-efficient rating drop down. Personally think that the winners should go in but if winners are already in then it should move to the next placed Premiership team who have far greater chance of doing well. Let's face it, Championship team would just put our reserve team to get out of it as quick as possible anyway.
Was just looking at this, the draw really hasn't done anything for us. We needed that Manchester x2 or Chelsea semi to be the final. Just imagine its likely that Wigan, Blackburn or Millwall will be playing European football next year (well briefly anyway).
Will 5th place even be available in the Europa League if Newcastle win this year's competition. I'd be amazed if they did but if the luck is with them!! Personally I'd like a Tottenham v Benefica in the final!! I am certain members of the "Old Skool" have wonderful memories of Benefica when they were the bees knees of Europe. Back to the discussion I think you will finish above Arsenal as they are absolute "cack" at the moment!!
Winning a cup is worthy of Europe, but as this draw shows it's not particularly difficult to fluke a draw to the final in which it is obvious you will be hammered. I think we will get 5th anyway though.
If Newcastle win then we'll have 4 entries into the competition as you'd get an additional entry. Only reason this wouldn't be the case was if they qualified via other means (league position or through domestic cups) - just checked on Premier League website for rules on who joins etc.
Agree went to watch Benfica play Anderlecht in the 80's step father was a huge Anderlecht fan followed them all over And yes hope we can fin above Arsenal
Don't think so. Only works if the winner doesn't qualify for European football via the domestic league or Cups. Don't think it works if Spuds won Europa league and got the EL spot either.
