Oddy Champagne Fever has a similar sort of profile to Al Ferof is my thinking. Both ran an exceptional race in the bumper and are essentially 3 milers.
Steady on George - I remember the Punchestown festival last year was run on heavy (in May!!) and it was only a few years ago that Royal Ascot was run on soft. I think soft is OK and most horses act on it, as long as it doesn't become heavy. I remember a few years ago backing Harchibald at 33/1 ante post for the Champion Hurdle, a horse who was far more effective on good ground. A week before the festival, with the ground drying out, they started watering
Personally I'm pleased the rain came in time as all of my fancies need a bit of cut (how do I do a smug smiley face on this!?)
If Dynaste goes Jewson, looks likely, will we see Captain Conan and Aupcharlie go Arkle??? Anyone know how come the Arkle final decs aren't out today like the Champion Hurdle?
Ok, that explains it Oddy Kinda hoping something else gets thrown into the Arkle mix and with the soft ground I'm hoping a few more like Aupcharlie, who Mullins did moot up for the Arkle, and Captain Conan do line up cos a match isn't really ideal for the Arkle
Finally. This decision was probably made ages ago. Quite absurd that he has been cut across the board though because isn't he priced up with a run anyway?
Agreed Hawk ...... I'd backed him NRNB for the RSA, so I with this info I went to re-bet in the Jewson and best is now 2-1. I still think he will win, but fecking bookies don't miss ANY oportunity to reduce prices
Not every bookie is NRNB on the Jewson which allows them all the argument that he wasn't priced up with a run but that their old prices factored in the probability of an RSA appearance. To be honest I don't buy into this as a grievance when NRNB is available so easily. If you fancy him for the RSA but see the possibility he could run in the Jewson why not back him in both? You get your stake back anyway in the one he doesn't turn up in.
Given the likely going on Tuesday, I'm liking much more now the Irish novice form for the Supreme. Which novice would our Irish correspondents rate highest? Ruby obviously likes Champagne Fever, but I guess he would not have been offered the ride on Un Atout as Davy Russell has first call on the Gigginstown runners? I think at the moment I'd have to put Un Atout at the top of the tree in Ireland, and probably Melodic Rendezvous (at the prices) as the best value English horse. Thoughts?
