From the Racing Post website this morning:

Despite temperatures forecast to dip to -5C on the eve of the four-day festival, Cheltenham's management remain unwaveringly confident that the meeting is not in jeopardy.

Cheltenham clerk of the course Simon Claisse is planning on Sunday to deploy frost covers in areas of the track in expectation of the cold snap.

Andy Clifton, the racecourse communications manager, said: "There's no threat whatsoever to the meeting based on the worst weather in the forecast.

"We're 100 per cent confident the festival will go ahead. As we've said, all precautions will be taken, including covering the course if that is thought necessary by Simon."

    Frost covers deployed from Saturday.

If it does rain/hail/sleet/snow how much precipitation do these covers keep off the track?

Hardly ideal for anything wanting as much moisture to seep into the turf as possible.

Really hope they can get it to good-soft. No-one wants a soft ground Cheltenham.

Dex - as I understand it, most of the precipitation would trickle through the covers - they are not waterproof, they just provide an insulating layer of warmer air <ok>

George - Hurricane Fly is one of my bigger ante post bets so I say "let it rain" ;)

Right - anyone care to reveal what's in their AP portfolio? Mine is:

    Supreme - Melodic Rendezvous
    JLT Midnight Chase
    Champion Hurdle Zarkander
    Cross Country Bostons Angel
    Neptune puffin Billy
    RSA Boston Bob
    Bumper Purple Bay
    Pertemps Shut the front Door
    Jewson Arvika Legionnaire
    Ryan Air Sizing Europe
    World Hurdle Peddlers Cross

So in a nutshell if none of that lot wins, or in some cases places, I won't be able to have a bet on friday :emoticon-0112-wonde:

If it comes up soft that won't do Grandouet's chances any good.
