Course it's not acceptable. Tho' it is infinitely less serious, much the same way stalking someone on Facebook is less serious than hiding in the bushes outside their house. It's also a lot easier to do in the heat of the moment, with no real direction, whereas the Chelsea fans who actually looked up Frisk's address, e-mail address, phone number and the details of his family are some seriously sick freaks.

Twitter also precludes the 'threat' being anonymous, which makes it almost impossible for the perpetrator to be caught if they follow through with the threat. Whereas anonymous phone calls, letters and e-mails are near impossible to trace, and thus are almost always taken much more seriously by the authorities.

Can you not set up an anonymous Twitter account to threaten people, like an anonymous email account?

Well, stock answer from the United glory hunter. Even when they are issuing death threats to referees they are not as bad as any other teams. Well they wouldn't be would they as you can do no wrong! You guys are priceless <laugh>
No wonder you're hated throughout the land. <ok>

Ps. Gaz, no need to call you one as its widely accepted on 606 that you are.

Good dodge. You managed to ignore everything everyone has said <applause>

Are you Rafa in disguise? Or just DL with multiple accounts? <laugh>

So you get a perfectly reasoned response blowing your already woeful argument out of the water and still try and twist it.

If the referee has a personal twitter account which someone has sent a death threat to directly then that is as bad as emailing him. If there's a Facebook group called 'we got robbed by Joe Bloggs the ref' and someone has made a comment on it then that is hardly the same thing. None of which is as bad as somehow finding his address and/or phone number and taking the time out to write a letter and post it threatening to kill them.

History will suggest that, as always, Chelsea can do no wrong in your eyes when it is plain to see the players and fans tend to take these things far further than any other club.

I wonder what Ossie would be more concerned by - if I posted "I'm going to kill you" on this forum, or if I found out his phone number and address and rang him in the middle of the night to tell him I was outside his house with a gun. Obviously they're both morally equivalent in his eyes...

Not sure about the highlighted bit tho' - a Twitter account is very public and easy to find, whereas unless the ref publicises his e-mail address you would have to go to quite a bit of effort to find it. Which comes back to the premeditation issue - just bashing a few keys in a drooling rage is infinitely different from searching for, and finding, personal information about someone and then acting on that information. And in the case of Frisk and Ovrebo that's still going on many years after the match in question.

Who said it was acceptable? I've seen many people say threats on thing like Twitter are not as bad as actual threats made to someones home address, but I haven't seen anyone say it's actually acceptable behavior.

Look the united fans are stupid for doing it but as most have stated, its not as serious as some other examples. This is like arsenal fans on twitter after van persie left, childish stuff.

It's a shame really. From running with the Headhunters in the 80's and facing off against the ICF and Men In Black to throwing insults to random strangers on the net.
I reckon he's really a QPR supporter taking the piss out of all of us.

You obviously did not see this forum after a referee dared to send a ManU player off. At Old Trafford too. How dare they?
