OT - Royal Mail Price Hike for Parcels

Just thought I would let everyone know, if like me and Mr M you have a small business or you send parcels frequently via Royal Mail, perhaps via eBay, that Royal Mail are hiking their prices by 110% in some instances from 2nd April 2013.

A parcel that currently costs us £2.70 to send first class will now be £5.65.

Anything larger than 45cm by 35cm by 8cm counts as a medium size parcel and will cost you £5.65 to send. And of course anything you buy that requires delivery by Royal Mail will probably cost that bit more now as charges are passed on to buyers.

Used to send a lot of parcels but I don't now.

That's a terribly high increase, they'll lose a lot of customers due to it and people will look for independant carriers.

Won't the office of fair trading be called in over it?

 

There doesn't seem to be any press coverage as yet; it all seems to be a bit under the radar and it's all being presented in a way that makes it look like it's a good thing.

They're not putting stamp prices up (well they don't need to after having put them up 30% last year ...) so my cynical guess is they're trying to hide the impact of the parcel price increase underneath the 'oh look we're so generous we're not putting stamp prices up' story.

I would think/hope that once this is more widely known a bit more of a fuss will be kicked up and a debate will start.

 

I can see other companies like Hermes mopping up a lot of their custom....

 

Unfortunately I worked for Royal Mail for about 3 months and was staggered by the stupidity of their operation. A relatively simple job converted into difficulty by a bunch of neo-clowns.

This will only hasten their demise, I fear.

 

Unfortunately, it isn't what they know that gets them jobs, it's who they know.

Still, on another issue. Isn't it strange the way dogs don't like postmen (but seem alright with females)? I remember one in Ryton who used to hurl himself violently against the door whenever I delivered anything?
