Calculated Risk runs tomorrow Sandown 1.30 won first time out on good, good to soft then was well backed in a hot race next time out finishing a respectable 5th behind some decent sorts. The 1st has gone on to compete in a Grade 2 and wasnt disgraced whilst the 2nd has run again, finishing 2nd also. It had a run on heavy next time up and was backed in again but could only manage 3rd. Back on its preferred surface and having its handicap debut i think we'll see a bit of improvement and ill be on at 10/3
Well done with the preview Toppy, one question though.........Why does Bob keep calling himself "The Champ"? ;-)
As a Listed race its a very good one to have on a mares CV. Honeyball loves his bumpers and has his sights set on winning this and another one next week!
One bet for me on Saturday: Kazlian in the Imperial Cup. Get the feeling that Tanerko Emery has been left in to keep the weight down for this fellow who s mark has dropped following 2 'no shows' in hot competitive races. If he wins he will run at Cheltenham in one of the handicaps if all is well and is likely to get in with a penalty. I just get the impression he's been laid out for it and the jockey was easy on him last time. I am on at 10-1 each way with Bet365 paying 5 places..
Does anyone have an opinion on Kings Lad in the 2.05 Sandown tomorrow? The horse demolished Mr Mole in November(who im on in the Imperial cup) and has came up against a few decent sorts since this - Mr Watson/River Maigue/Meganisi looks a decent Each way price to me.
fair enough. looks ultra tough to win. 9/17 last time out winners and 18 wins out of 35 runs between them. good luck.
Certainly think he's on a very good mark but Sean Quinn (assistant trainer and John Quinn's son) stated that he does not like testing ground. He could easily be pulled out.
One of the most ridiculously open handicaps your likely to see outside of the Festival. Mr Watson was undoubtedly a handicap blot and a 5lb rise in a race that is working out well seems fair. He has shaped on a couple of occasions that a step up in trip would suit whilst others he's looked quite tired late on. Certainly couldn't put you off backing him at 18s
Because he's full of **** but thinks a self assigned nickname will somehow help us to see past that. Easy solution, click on member name and add to ignore list. I did the same to Boris a while back when he was doing all those ridiculous slogans but he seems to have calmed down a bit.
2.40 Sandown Soll 7/1 The handicapper has given Soll a massive chance in my opinion and if this significant ease in class does the trick then I think Jo Hughes's 8 year old has a tremendous chance of landing this extended 3m handicap. A former Point To Point winner, Soll started his career with John Quinn and made a great first impression when scoring impressively on his Rules debut over hurdles at Newcastle by 10L in January 2011 before he was quickly moved across the Irish Sea to Willie Mullins. 11 months after his success for John Quinn, Soll ran a blinder on his stable and chasing debut when going down by a neck in testing conditions to Son Amix over 3 miles at Punchestown in December 2011 in a race where subsequent Paddy Power Chase winner Colbert Station was comprehensively beaten in 4th. Soll made no mistake on his 2nd start over fences when dropped back to 2m4f on heavy ground at Down Royal to score authoritatively by 4.5L from the useful Harpsy Cord in February last year. His last start for Willie Mullins came in the 4 Mile Amateur Race at last years festival when sent off an 8/1 shot but he was unfortunately brought down by his stablemate Allee Garde at the 12th flight when still going well. For one reason or another, his sole owner Derrick Mossop decided to bring him back over to the UK to be trained with Jo Hughes and he's certainly shaped well on both his starts for the Lambourn handler. Soll's stable debut for Hughes came on his handicap debut over fences in the fiercely competitive Hennessy Gold Cup off a mark of 140 where he ran extremely well for an awful long way. Prior to the race, Jo Hughes said he wasn't 100% fit on what was his first start for 9 months but he really impressed me that day with superb jumping and it wasn't until the latter stages of the race where he found wanting for class and fitness as he finished a very respectable 33L beaten 8th after tiring late on. Dropped 1lb for that run to a mark of 139, Jo Hughes was very bullish about his chances going into the Welsh National stating ""It's all systems go for and it's very exciting". Over the mammoth 3m5f trip at Chepstow, Soll again travelled very well for a long way but I think he just found the heavy conditions too much that day as he came home a very tired horse and well beaten. However, I think you've got to be very forgiving of any horse who doesn't put in a sterling performance in the Welsh National which is typified by Master Overseer, Jadanli and Michel Le Bon (who all pulled up) winning subsequently. I think the handicapper has been extremely lenient by dropping Soll a massive 7lb to a mark of 132 which allows him to take a huge drop in grade to a Class 3 handicap and I'm sure connections will be very disappointed if he was unable to capitalise off such a mark in an event like this and with only 6 starts under rules to date he's still open to considerable improvement. He's got an entry in the Grand Annual, Grand National and Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown so he's still clearly a well thought of horse and I'd be quite surprised if he wasn't good enough for this field. He's stepped back to an extended 3m which shouldn't be much of a problem with Sandown's stiff uphill finish and Mark Grant again takes the ride. Jo Hughes has her horses in fine form at present with her last NH horse winning and this represents a rare visit to Sandown for her. With conditions likely to prove no problem, I think Soll is going to take a lot of beating and 7/1 looks a lovely price to me.
Cheers for the input ROTO, i thought i read it was going to be good to soft tomorrow but it appears to be soft now... hope its a dry night!
Hello lads....full as a work house po after some excellent wine and ale in the Chubby Cherub and The Garrick. Interested in Pass The Hat @ 14/1 E/W 3.55 Gowran. Been entered up for a while from this shrewd stable and handicapping after three runs in very decent novice chases. Progressive over timber and is very well treated off 119 in this first run against the big boys. Probobly will need farther in time but this is a decent pot and with the ground likely to dry up after tmz,I think a decent E/W pop is my suggestion...I think he will be trying. Tomorrows racing is complete pish (I heard a Scotsman use that term earlier in the Garrick) I do agree. Small Dutch on Harpsy Cord ay 10/1.
sandown 2.05-close touch 13/2.I was at a chelts preview yesterday and barry gerathy said this horse had a great chance of scoring
I thought the "champ" thing was a private joke between you three! He's never even entered the league compo let alone return a 20% profit after 14 weeks like some of us......
