My point was regarding the debate on here last week with TC. He stated that we were running up massive losses to fund our promotion push, I posted the figures showing that our £8.7m loss last season was about middle table in the Championship, there's at least ten clubs running at bigger losses, hence his claim was bollocks(yours were over three times ours, thanks to Sven).
But your £8.7M loss conveniently excluded pay-offs to Barmby and Pearson and only part of the £2.6M Prostwich fee http://www.thisishullandeastriding....tory-17838867-detail/story.html#axzz2MZJbjn4H
That's irrelevant, it barely affects the numbers, Barmby got a bit of cash, but Pearson got nothing, even when you add them on, we still don't get close to the losses of many other clubs. I realise that you're only including Hull to irritate me and that you're actually well aware that the losses at Cardiff, Leicester, Bolton, Wolves, Blackburn and several others are way bigger. Though that rather ruins your point about clubs buying their way out of the league, as half of those clubs are doing ****e.
Cardiff and Leicester I agree with, but Blackburn and Wolves are bad examples as you cannot accuse them of trying to buy promotion when they have made money on their transfer dealing since they've been in the Championship - Bolton have only spent £2m in the last 2 seasons too
Blackburn have a net spend of £8.5m this season and their wage bill is well over double ours, Wolves have indeed done very well on the transfer front.
As they lost £18.9m last year and are expected to lose much more than that in the current year(due to having a £49.9m wage bill and an income substantially lower than that), I suspect they can't afford it at all.
That £18.9M loss has inflated their net debt to £26M (33% of Hulls debt or 25% of Leicesters debt) The £48M in parachute payments they receive will wipe that out
So you would actually prefer to rack up £100m debt, and risk the future of your club if the owner decided his little project wasn't working and decided to leave, rather than do it the way we are? Really? We have nearly gone into Admin a few times but have luckily avoided it one way or another. Once we asked all staff to take a cut in wage to make us manageable. Other times selling our best players to avoid it and most recently our crooked owner being bought out, as I have no doubt that if the new owners hadn't taken over, we would be in serious trouble! It's not as if we have been spending fortunes either (Ellington aside a few years back)! Give us the way we are now than debt/admin. I'm really not sure how it will come back to bite us either! If we go up, we will sign all best players we have now on permanent deals, while still having a manageable wage bill. If we don't, the FL will no doubt close the international transfer rule (or change it to be in line with the national rules). Then we will just sign who we can within an affordable wage structure. I can guarantee that whether the FL decide to close this loan rule or not, we were never going to sign the same amount of players from the 'family'. It was a short term thing to make us competitive And why shouldn't Udinese send their 'reserves' to us! Chelsea et al stockpile promising youngsters and send them all out on loan - it's just smart sending them to the same team to play together! Maybe some will go back to play for Udinese, while some they think won;t make it, while some think they would be better playing for us! There'll be a hell of a lot more money coming into us than Udinese if we were to get promoted, so maybe Udinese will become 'Watford B'
You can't count. The parachute payments are over four years, by the end of the current year, their debt will exceed ours and unless they sell everyone(or get promoted), by the end of the four years, their debt will exceed Leicester's.
TC always seems to lack common sense and brush every Club that does better than his beloved Millwall under the same brush. Because we're 3rd, that means we've splashed enormous amounts of money into a Promotion Gamble in TC's head. Trying to teach him that things aren't always as he thinks they are is like trying to teach a Water Gecko to Line Dance...
But look where its got them Basically because Millwall are skint that means any clubs that spends money deserves to struggle right?
Probably! Isn't it a coincidence that Millwall have gone to **** ever since they lost out on Wood to your lot? ... He might be a bit bitter still.
Absolutely not, I'd much rather we could do it the way you've done it. It's essentially a no-lose situation. But not many clubs have the unfair advantage you have and have no other option than to buy their way out of this division or just float around between the Championship and League One dreaming of a promotion to the Premiership without expenditure that will never come, like Millwall and Leeds. I think owning two or more clubs is a conflict of interest, especially if they're at the same level, even if they are in different countries. What if your owners think your current crop of Udinese players are ready for their first team? What if they decide Udinese needs significant development and they can't afford to invest in Watford at the same time? What if they start selling off your assets to keep Udinese in the top flight? Everything seems rosy now but it could easily change. And that's before we start talking about the ridiculously large number of loanees you have that's got the whole country shaking it's collective head.
Lets be fair here, its not like you've not spent money. You're probably in the top 3 in terms of spending this season.
