I thought I would study the table earlier and I was amazed to find out that we are the 4th highest scoring team away from home. Also amazing as well is that we have scored more away than at home. A bit of a shame that we have conceded so many away from home. It made me think however that our saviour might actually be our away form rather than at SMS. I think teams come to our place ad stifle us but away from home it's more open. If we can only stop conceding goals you never know
Norwich don't normally concede many, although I am told that when they do - they struggle to get back into the game. Can Saints get some early away goals again please?
Not a Saints away game unless we score a shock early goal, followed within ten minutes by an equalizer.
Yeah, as soon as we score you just wait for the equalizer to roll in, would love a clean sheet, that would be so special.
You have conceded more away goals than ANY other side though. Surely any team can score bags of goals if they abandon their defensive duties and lose games 2-3?
And from that abandonment of defensive duties, we have 10 points in 14 games away. From West Ham's disciplined display, which has seen them score only 9 goals away all season, they have 11 points in 14. Rather lose 2-3 than 0-1, when it comes down to it.
That's not what this thread is getting at though is it? The OP is rejoicing that you have scored so many away goals. I'm merely pointing out that whilst scoring lots of goals is great, it's a bit pointless if it is at the expense of goals at the other end.
Annoying to lose when ahead, but generally if you can score goals you will get points. I would be more worried to lose 1.0all the time...you'd wonder where your points were coming from if that happened.
Most teams in the bottom half concede more than they score away; it's damned close to inevitable. We've scored 20 while conceding 34; you've scored 9 while conceding 24. Neither is unusual, but I think that I know which one I'd rather watch.
We have won 3 away this season and picked up 11 points. You have won 2 and picked up 10. Think I know which one I'd rather watch.
A whole point...wow! Points are precious I know, but why quote a particular stat that merely shows WHU are about the same as us. You're not even trying.
You may well go down or stay up by a WHOLE POINT though. I didn't realise you could afford to be so flippant about such things. We have won more away than you and have picked up more points. But as long as you are being entertained by your 2-3 and 2-4 defeats, that's the most important thing.
Trixster, I believe you have missed the point too. A large number of those away goals were conceded in our first 10 games. For heavens sake, we even managed to concede four against you during that time. The point was more, will our away games be the saviour than at home where a number of teams have parked their flipping bus?
..........and you need to point that out to us because.......? Did we ask for your opinion? What's more your opinion is not wanted or needed..............
I said that I know how important one point can be, but when when you look for stats to support your side you should look for something outstanding...not something that shows nothing of the sort.
I think the point Trix is making is that if you score more goals than you let in you are more likely to win matches. Cheers Trixie, we were struggling with that concept.
It was schad that brought West Ham into it not me. He was the one who bizarrely gave a stat which showed West Ham as the superior away side. All I'm saying is why celebrate being the 4th highest away scorers when you have THE worst away defence? Surely it's about finding a balance? For what its worth, whufc are too defensive away and wish we would go for it a bit more.
Agree with your thinking, but we shipped most of the goals in the first 10 games as we were very much a Championship side being found out at this level, you were lucky that the core of your team had premiership experience and not so lucky that your manager wanted his team to play ugly to get points. You have points in the bag but fans that are not happy, whereas we were playing a style of football that would take time to gel and would result in us getting punished alot. I would prefer to be watching good football rather than ugly even if it does leave us somewhat in the ****.
We all love watching good football and Saints are exciting at the moment, but I won't mind how we win this Saturday. Three points now may not be essential, but would certainly settle the nerves.
