are the pies good at Carrow Road? Travelling up tomorrow with my husband to spend some time in your fair city other than just the time at the match and wondering whether to have lunch in the city or to save ourselves for some fare at the ground. I was listening to Delia on 5 live the other day and she said she does the catering there. Whilst I'm not expecting her to serve me - is there a decent pie to be had at Carrow Road and is it better than the usual Pukka Chicken Balti nonsense? The woman is a goddess to both my husband and me as she taught him to cook which pleased both him and me. Big match for us - but then they all are!
Literally every away fan asks this. Some genuinely believe that Delia hand makes the probably tens of thousands of pies sold on a matchday herself.

I had the unforgettable experience of an F A Cup away day to The Dell, in the early 90's. Archer's Road open terrace What an odd ground, not a right angle in the place and executive boxes bolted on anywhere they'd fit. It finished 0 - 0 and we won the replay. Good luck apart from tomorrow.
I was there as well mate, and Saint Delia was sat in the row behind me about eight feet away! My other memories of that ground were that in he even of a fire we'd had all been screwed in that rickety old wooden stand with just two exits and a thirty foot drop to the level below In answer to the OP you won't be disappointed with the grub on offer, I've not had a better pie at any other ground personally. I was also at that one - the only time I saw us come away from the Dell without a defeat! Used to love going there just to visit the Winston behind the ground
To answer the OP my 'away' pie earlier in the season at Carrow Road was 'acceptable'. I too had expected better but that might just be the Delia 'halo' effect. Best pie easily Barnsley away
It's always bewildered me - and still does, how people commit so much time, money and distance travelling to away games - and then factor in the quality (or otherwise) of a frickin half time pie to help determine their matchday experience? Why not prepare ahead, visit a local shop or deli before heading to the game, safe in the knowledge that you won't then be a) ripped off, and b) disappointed come half time?
Because a pie at a football match is all part of the match day experience. And if it's bad it gives you something to moan about which is also part of the matchday experience. Especially if you're a Southampton supporter!
The cup match at the Dell I mentioned earlier, where you still had Flowers and Shearer, took place 21 years ago yesterday 07/03/1992. And I can still remember that finger of blue stilton quiche I 'smuggled in' as if it was yesterday Enjoy your 'matchday experiences' Ziggy, and the moan afterwards!
Trust me - at the recent games at home against Newcastle, Luton and Fulham the half-time pie and pee were the highlights of the day. I think tomorrow will be a much better game .....
If you enjoy a good, quality burger there is an American Diner called Captain America's. Probably 20-25 mins walk from the ground (right in the city centre, oposite Jarrolds). Well worth a look. Closer to the ground you have some places to eat on riverside. Failing that, the Coach and Horses do some very decent grub. It is on Thorpe Road, just up from the train station on the left. Food inside the ground is ok, but it is mass produced football ground fair. It is never going to be THAT good...
I was at that game. Remember Saints missing a sitter right in front of us. Believe it came off Cockerill's knee and went over the bar from 2 yds. The replay was one of my favourite games ever. Well, Chris suttons late winner in extra time was anyhow.
One of the most delirious nights at Carrow Road in a long while. The goal came 4 minutes from the end of extra time - and Saints had beaten Man ure on pens in the previous round. Others were when we beat Villa 1 - 0 at the end of the 1993 season (two horse race my foot, Hansen ) when Polston scored the day after his son was born, and then the 1 - 1 draw v Munich which saw us through to face Internazionale. Whilst the Coach and Horses does some good food surely it is worth mentioning that it also has a selection of really good locally brewed beers as well - a pint of Flintknappers will set you up nicely for a pie although it tends to be very busy on a match day. Probably because it sells good food and beer. They also have a nice range of ciders if you are more of a fruit based drink type.
