WATFORD FC v BLACKPOOL 9 MARCH 2013 VICARAGE ROAD 3PM Watford take on Blackpool this Saturday in our race for promotion and second spot. Oh no, my mistake, Cardiff are in a sort of free-fall, so it could even be a race to first place! Watford sit in second (yeah, you read that right!!) and Blackpool are seventeenth in the table. Team news to follow closer to the game but for now it's thought that Watford will be without Fitz Hall, Tommie Hoban and the recently re-injured Neuton, who now has a dislocated shoulder, injured in training this week. Troy Deeney has just signed a new 3 and a half year contract, so this could spur him on to a brace at the very least. He sited the fans as a major factor in his decision to stay, and he may want to give something back for their valued support over his last, rather rocky 12 months. Blackpool will be without striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher who has torn his hamstring. Watford manager Gianfranco Zola after the 2-1 win against the Owls: "They've (the subs) really made a big difference. That's what you need when sometimes things don't work well - you need to be able to change things when it's needed and Fernando and Nathaniel did exactly that today." Blackpool manager Paul Ince after the Seasider's 1-1 draw with Birmingham: "It would be nice to get a win but I've only been here two weeks. Apart from the Leeds game, we've got three draws and we're building blocks at the moment." Yeah, keep it that way Paul you don't want to be winning games early on now do you... Incidently, here is Ince's record: Mar 5: Birmingham (a) D1-1 Mar 2: Bristol City (h) D0-0 Feb 23: Leicester (h) D0-0 Feb 20: Leeds (a) L0-2 AS ALWAYS COMMENTS WELCOME > ENJOY THE GAME !! Thanks Mex ...great thread as ever Okies, strangely enough i feel weirdly confident about this one, which is not normal for me so something tell me we could slip up! (women's logic, don'tcha just love it ) Still, now that Forestieri seems to have his confidence back, and then some, i think he might start, along with Deeney and maybe Vydra. I can see Doyley playing at the back too. i'm going for 3-1, but that's more out of habit than anything..i have a feeling we could get more this weekend and keep a clean sheet!
Nice one Mex, 5 *'s from me - like H, I am a bit more confident after Tuesdays performance. But I am going to break ranks and go with a 2-0 home win.
Nice one mex. I suspect that Blackpool might be scared of the strange new green stuff we call grass. They are more at home in a newly plowed field. However, on a serious note I think this will be another tough test of our promotion credentials. If we can contain Ince, then there is no reason we cant overcome the test.
I think I have been following Watford for far too long. This match brings back recent memories of being 2-0 up early in the reverse fixture and drawing 2-2. I remember the Easter of 1967 when we missed out on promotion as a consequnece of unexpectedly bad results. I wish I had been trained as an engineer, then my glass would be neither half full nor half empty - just too big. I can do without the pre-match nerves at this stage of the season.
I think it's important to have a really understated sig. One which has no chance whatsoever of tempting fate...
jck, if you had supported Watford for as long as I have you come to expect bad results . On the odd occasion, apart for the Taylor era, whenever we seemed to be doing well we didn't.
Surely if you think that Blackpool will win, your predicted scoreline should read 0-4? A Freudian slip there, revealing your true thoughts - and quite possibly your worries - I suspect.
I keep telling my self that the pre match nerves and worry is part of the fun ........hasnt worked yet but you never know
