Has anyone heard of this bloke? I've just read an article on him and done a bit of research and he's regarded as one of the worlds top mountaineers. He's from Hull and having looked at a lecture on You Tube he gave he's not what you'd expect. Working class, Hull accent, brought up in a council maisonette on Anlaby Road and left school with no qualifications. I've never heard of him but he's proud to be from Hull and on the footage I saw claimed it was a great place and has nothing but great memories of growing up here. I just think it's a bit odd that someone so highly regarded in such a demanding and dangerous line of work isn't well known to anyone from his home city. Maybe he is and I'm just ignorant.
He does seem to be slightly bonkers, some of the stuff he climbs doesn't look climbable. I suspect the reason most on here won't know of him, is that he wasn't born in Hull and he doesn't live here now, if he did, I think we'd have heard more about him.
Put some links did he climb mount everest? Think i heard of him a rew years ago.. Bit offtopic but isint former saints n leeds footballer david prutton from hull?
No one really hears of mountaineers it's sort of a closed circle thing. The only mountaineer I could name is the one everyone knows Sir Edmund Hillary who was the first to summit everest, I think he was normal (by that I mean British) but I'd be ****ed if I knew where from.
In the clip I saw he gave a brief summary of his life so far and said he was from Hull. He moved here when he was 6. Good on him. You get arsewipes like Andrew Lincoln ( the actor) who lived here for years but appear to be ashamed of the connection and state they have no affection or affinity with Hull. I liked it when he said he wouldn't climb Everest as it was more of a walk than a climb. He is a bit mental by looks of things.
I would if I knew how to put links in on my phone and no Everest doesn't interest him. Not technical or hard enough by the looks of what he's saying.
To show just how bonkers, he climbed this in the middle of winter(the most difficult climb in Europe), it took him 15 days please log in to view this image This is his website... http://andy-kirkpatrick.com/
Didn't know rick grimes lived in hull, sounds to me more like he's lived in hillbilly country his whole life.
How does he stack against this guy in the bonkers category?
Expected better from you Carmine. Travis is the definition of bonkers, there's no one on the planet will rival him, not even close. Not even Bernard Mendy.
