After past night a few places will be up for grabs. Question marks over Anthony Knockaert, David Nugent and Harry Kane's places in the team. There will also be question marks over the fitness of Paul Konchesky meaning Jeff Schlupp could come in a left back. He is still our player and will be at least until next season and he is available to Nigel whenever he chooses. So here is what I would pick Schmeichel De Laet Morgan Keane Schlupp Marshall King Drinkwater Nugent Wood Waghorn Subs Logan, St. Ledger, James, Knockaert, Gallagher, Dyer, Kane
I think once again the lack of strength in depth has been clearly demonstrated, we have no real options at either left or right back, so even if they have an off game or two were stuck with them, we have 2 central defenders out long term, so have a young lad at the back, tho to be fair to him, he has done pretty well. We have alot of strikers, but yet again once them main men are either injured or off form, the quality is sadly lacking, Futacs, Waghorn, and def Vardy are just not up to it. And midfield is the same senario, with the likes of Wellens,Gallagher most def not up to it, and the jury is out on Dyer and King for me. At the end of the day were just an average team certainly not good enough for auto's if were being honest with ourselves, and the way things are going we will be lucky to make the play offs. I don't really know what has gone wrong lately, but it all seems to have gone wrong since all the changes were made to a winning team for the 1st cup game against Hudds, maybe just a coincidence but it makes you think ???
Schmeichel, de laet, morgan, keane, konch/schlupp, knockaert, king, drinkwater, marshall, nugent, wood subs logan, whitbread, james, wellens, dyer, waghorn, kane
With Knockaert in the team, he seems to play the 'free role' whatever his 'official' position. I think this messes with the shape of the team, and often leaves us exposed when the ball is given away (which has been happening noticeably more often in the last 3 or 4 games). So, to combat this, why not stick him just behind the strikers in an 'official' free role position, and replace him out with a player who is more comfortable not roaming, thus theoretically giving the team a better shape? With this in mind, I'd go for something like this: Schmeichel De Laet Morgan Keane Konch/Schlupp Marshall Drinkwater Dyer Knockaert Nugent Wood Subs: Logan, St. Ledger, Wellens, King, Gallagher, Waghorn, Kane
What he said - I think this is currently (on form) our strongest line-up and just hoe we are able to recall Jeff to fill-in at left back .. I would use Kane to come on for Wood or Nugent depending how we are getting on around the 50-60 minute mark -and King probably for Marshall or Dyer switching Knocky at that point ...
I'm just wondering if part of the loan deal with Kane is that he plays alot of game time Might explain why he was put on left wing when we have 2 better left wingers on the subs bench Hope this isn't the case
When Kane started on the right last night, he actually put in a couple of excellent crosses. I personally think we should recall Danns and play him in a central role.
Pretty disgruntled that we play a striker wide right and a left winger at full back. Managers decision that failed. If we sign a striker on loan, then we should play him as a striker. If we dont play him then why sign him - you dont make loan signings from Premiership clubs to warm the bench.
.. which is a shame if that's the case ... we could really do with his type of physical presence and drive in the middle of the park - I know he splits opinion but there was a time last season Derby away and Chelsea in the cup where he looked far and away our best player ... him Morgan and Schmeichel were the only ones I had in my MUST RETAIN end of season list .. oh well ...
I'm beginning to think this about Keane. He seems to be making a fair few mistakes of late that we weren't making earlier in the season and Whitbread and St Ledger are both fit but not being considered it would seem. I hate it when players play out of position so Kane needs to start on the bench for me. What's wrong with having good options on the bench? We don't have to force our best players into the starting line up. Kane is quality but Nugent and Wood seem to have a rapport.
@OfficialFOXES: Nigel Pearson confirms that Paul Konchesky will miss #swfc on Saturday, but Jeff Schlupp is in contention after rejoining the squad. #LCFC
Be interesting to see how Schlupp's coming along. Having seen him at Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the season I hope he'll manage the same standards.
Kasper De Laet Morgan Keane Schlupp Marshall James DD Knockaert Nugent Wood. Thats when we looked best.
