Good atmosphere 2nd half but a bit disappointing numbers wise. More surely want to see the team on its current form!?
it was a suprisingly small crowd, though it's usually smaller midweek than a Saturday and apparently there was a big accident on the A41 which may have kept people away... i hope the crowds come back soon
Weekday game maybe? Also, I guess a lot of people figured we wouldn't struggle against sheffield and opted for the champions league game Edit: although to be honest, I would expect a lot of people to turn up if they thought Mila Kunis was going to be there!
Like Ive already said, thousands of kids would rather pretend to be fans of Arsenal/Spurs/Chelsea and never go to live football games than go and see their local side play some quality football whilst getting better value for money. Then there are others who are Watford fans but just cant justify £26 for a 90 minute game of Championship football.
That is true about price Mitch and cost is a problem generally for footbal but when people keep paying £62 for Arsenal games etc those in charge won't change their minds no matter how much people complain.
Tickets were only £15 last night if you are a season ticket holder (most people will know someone who is one!) so agree the crowd was a tad disappointing - esp in view of the fact SW brought c.1000 themselves. I brought a Shayman (not a practitioner of the dark arts but a Halifax FC supporter) along yest as he works with me in Oxford and was keen to see what all the hype is about. He was v impressed with Bond and Forestieri. Felt we deserved to win and enjoyed the atmosphere in the Rookery. Hopefully we can pick up another 3 points on sat in another tough game (I think it is clear to see that the last 10 games will all be tricky and will require 100% concentration and commitment). Btw.....think it is fantastic that they have frozen ST prices for next season for existing holders. Buzzing from last night - u orns!!!!
I was disappointed when I saw the attendance- don't understand it, but I suppose a lot of the reasons suggested above hold. Me, I'm busting to be there but can't be. Grrr.
I agree with Mitch that the cost does make people stop and think can they afford to go twice in one week. Unless I am in the UK for other things to share the cost around a bit, to come over for a game of football would not be realistic. The visit we made 10 days ago cost somewhere in the region of £400, so the trips do not come cheap. Alright I don't live within travelling distance now, but even when I lived in Northants and had a young family, their needs had to come first. The same level of football here costs very much less, €8 for a seat, but attendances are poor. The discussions I have seen in the local press suggest that even at that price people who would like to go cannot afford to. They choose to spread their leisure money around and go to many different types of sport. This creates a downward spiral of poor atmosphere at matches with a ground two thirds empty, lack of income to improve the team and no real feeling of it being the fans club. What they do do well however is have many junior teams playing under the clubs name, but even then you will see the youngsters wearing shirts of Spanish and Italian teams, not their local one. Don't really know the answer. Maybe we need to be in the prem with the plastics to raise the numbers, but a vast number of them hardly go to support their local team when they are doing poorly.
Loyalty points would get more fans to the vic. People who support Watford but dont live close to Watford would go to more games if they knew they would be building up their loyalty points per game. Reading did this and they got bigger crowds (in the Championship not just the Prem). If you go to a 1 off Watford game home or away and say we lose or it's a boring 0-0 then at least you know it wasn't a total waste of time as you will have increased your loyalty points to get that bit closer to a free game in the future. People shouldn't really need more of an incentive to go to our games as we are 2nd, playing quality football and scoring a decent amount of goals both home and away. But, the cost of fuel, the cost of matchday food/drink plus the cost of tickets means clubs DO need to give people more of an incentive/reason to buy tickets.
The reduce tickets scheme are good but the trouble is I believe the club are only allowed to do so many a season...Loyalty points could work indeed to an extent. Its all about first impressions...forever whatever reason we don't seem to perform as well when its a "Kids for a Quid day"!
we've had a bit of a turn around this season. Not so great on the telly, but winning on "Kids for a Quid Day"...let's hope that continues..
