Forest could only beat us after we had 2 men sent off so this is still a fantastic effort from the boys and just shows how hard everyone is working in a Town shirt. Effort, Grit, Determination in abundance! I am just so bloody pleased and proud of my team tonight and we were much the better side. SUPER MICK McCARTHY
Hampy did you go tonight.? When it was ten v eleven we still looked the most likely to score, a badly deflected shot that separated the two sides We had no luck tonight, both red cards seemed harsh although both unnecessary especially Martins, saying that we should have had a pen at 0-0
Not often I am happyish with a defeat but it does sound as tho we put in a heroic performance, superb defending, blooded 2 new players for the future...and still could have nicked it with only 9 men! This is a very different team and club from 3 months ago...we would have caved in and been at the foot of table by now. I remain hopeful, and look forward to a report from someone please...Hoppers? And I hope all those who travelled felt it was worth it. With business end of the season looming up, I believe we do have the strength of character and determination to stay up, and I am still predicting a top 15!
We lost 1-0....had 2 players sent off....thats the bottom line....we can take absolutely nothing from this....yeah well done Mick!
No Hoppers I didn't go last night. There is a huge amount of difference between almost sticking the ball in the net and actually sticking the ball in the net. There are no prizes for the former. Man United played well last night but guess who's in the draw for the next round?
What I am trying to say is 5 months ago it would have been another 6-0.... At the time of the 1st red we were on top & the better side, 11 v 10 we looked the most likely to score, we adapted well with each red card brandished, apart from a massive deflection we would have held out for a point....... Both red cards were totally avoidable, Florist players acting skills gave the Ref a choice to make, IMO both over reacted especially Reid, all Stearman did was leaver him out of the way, saying that though I am sure Mick will be fumimng with both recipients. The ref was a homer, a two footed lunge on Hyam late in the game was punished with a yellow card, Hyam clearly did not roll around in agony long enough ala Trent divers..! Martin was clearly fouled in the area 1st half, no pen, we take a quick free kick, goal disalowed.....Florist took at least 2-3 quick free kicks after that all allowed by the ref.......One of those nights when we got nothing from the game or the ref......But it was an excellent display from all........(ex Martin, Ref & Florist)
We seem to have a hell of a lot of games at the moment where the ref seems to be one-sided. I wonder what's causing it?
Definitely a case of 'what could have been' There's no doubt that it was a valiant display and I think that a few months ago we would have shipped 5 or 5 even with 11 on the pitch so we are certainly beginning to see the fruits of the MM era... even if it is in the most basic and (at times) brain numbingly dull fashion. If we go on and beat Posh at the weekend then this match will all but be forgotten, but I can't help feeling that this is definitely a point dropped.
Of course I'm supportive but a win is a win and a loss is a loss. Sometimes we play utter crap and win and you won't hear anyone on here complaining about the performance. If I was in a position to encourage the players then I would probably be applauding a good performance but I'm not.
It is in reference to the point scoring system adopted by the football league, where in the event of the scoreline being equal (in our case 0-0) after the full time whistle then each team is awarded a point. We were in such a position for 84 minutes of the match and due to some poor judgement and decision making of players, in particular reference to Martin and Stearman, we forfeited our point when Forest scored, which was an avoidable occurrence had such earlier incidents (aforementioned) been different.
Loving the Sarcasm! Most people before this game were predicting a defeat anyway! We came so close to pulling off a great result when down to 9 men. I take a lot of positives out of last night despite the defeat. I refer to Hoppers post further up and from what Alex Mathie was saying on Suffolk. This proves how far we have come under Mick and we are no longer a soft touch and pushovers that we used to be We play like this for the rest of the season we will survive.
I must admit it was a valiant display and as I mentioned earlier we would have shipped 4 or 5 with 11 on the pitch a few months ago so certainly steps are being made. I said before hand that there was something in the match for us and would take a draw but felt we would come unstuck and lose 1-0 and turned out to be right on pretty much all fronts but I suppose the big match was always going to be this weekend. I see it as a point dropped as if we would have kept 11 on the pitch I think we would have gone on to draw (maybe even win) and that we ultimately threw that point away with Martin's petulance and Stearman's over exuberance (which gave the referee the chance to send him off) As good a performance and admirable as it was it was still a defeat but I suppose the manner of defeat given the circumstances is something that could be seen as improvements made..
It shows how far we have come under Mick that even after having two sent off we still compete.... i would off been happy with two points from the last two games so i see it as a point gained....
I have no doubt last night that with eleven on the pitch we would have come away with something, probably 3 points IMO.
I've just been reading all the posts on TWTD and the amount of abuse that has been directed at Lee Martin is just plain ludicrous! Yes he shouldn't have reacted the way he did to get sent off but everyone has forgotten Stearman's needless red card that arguably cost us the game with 9 men! I don't think Martin will be a Town player come the summer but while he is still a Town player we should support him. His 3 match suspension will provide Mick with the chance to bring in a few of the fringe players. Stearman's 2 bookings will result in a one match ban so that is not too bad!
As an attacker his stats just don't add up. He has good work rate etc but does not do enough damage going forward. Wouldn't be overly bothered if he left to tell the truth, unless he wants to switch places with Cressy and let Aaron do the attacking whilst Lee uses his energy at the back <tongueincheek>
