I think it won't be long before we see a picture of this referee wearing a Real Madrid shirt!

I must admit that I think it was a red - dont all come for me at once!!

Arbeloa has in the air too but lets say he had been running to head the ball it would have caused a serious injury. Obviously in most circumstances a yellow is given but when the replays were being shown (before the red was given) I said to my dad that I had seen red cards given for that sort of incident.

It was dangerous and for me it shows a lack of awareness by Nani. If no one is around you and you want to bring the ball down like that then theres no issue but going into an opponent around chest height with your studs showing is dangerous.

I did enjoy winding united fans up about this last night but I genuinely think it was a red card....... wasnt actaully expecting it though especially the time the referee had to think about the decision.

Did that really have to be said? As I explained at the time, when I also apologised for my misinterpretation, my understanding of the O/T situation was to cover topics not available elsewhere hence the reason why over the years we have slipped into Politics, Music etc etc and I have quite happily joined in. You raised a cycling topic on the Football forum when there is a Cycling forum and I thought, wrongly as Dave pointed out, that it crossed the line - excusing the pun.
As far as Nani is concerned it was a disgraceful decision which totally affected the outcome of the game, the outcome of the Champions League and the outcome of multi millions of pounds worth of bets in the far east.

1. A lady never forgets, so don't piss her off

2. You effectively ruined the thread

3. Given the manner of your first post forgive me for being rather sceptical, I've heard that sort of thing plenty of times. But I expect that's the best I will get so I accept your apology. <ok>

I agree there is a pattern. Continental referees in general, not just this one, penalise anything they see as dangerous play. Don't think intent is part of the definition either. Also, players are required to be aware in a general sense. For example, someone attempting an overhead kick in the box will be ok if they do it in space, but not if a defender is close to them. JWM can probably clarify it for us. <ok>

Perhaps in the minority here, but I thought the ref had a good game.

Let the game flow, and waved away numerous appeals from both sides
for dodgy hand balls and dubious tackles.

PS I did want MU to win,as I support English teams

Could this be to do with the style of the game being different in Britain to the continent though? I've always had the impression our leagues are more physical, so whilst we might say there was no intent, and that's a sound reason in the UK, maybe in the rest of Europe, any high foot that connects dangerously is a red?

Being Turkish he would have experienced very hostile crowds at
Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş.

He was strong in his control and exerted considerable restraint
with MU players (Ferdinand) at the end.

Easy to show restraint when your bank account has just been credited a few billion Lire. How do you do those little accents btw? Very snazzy.

The referee had a good game apart from missing Rafael's goal saving handball which should have been a penalty and another red card. He should also have shown Ferdinand a Red Card after the final whistle for his OTT remonstrations of dissent. And all the biased press reckon that Manure were hard done by and are the greatest football club in this country...!<laugh>

We've still not had one! Granted, we don't make that many chances, so have a lower chance of winning them, but still. 14 is what, 1 every 2,3 games? That's far too high.

Most penalties these days are for handball and the majority of those are for ball to hand with the ball blasted at full pelt from about five metres.Making football a lottery and a mockery.

I have the fortune or misfortune to live in Manchester, Got off the train at Man Piccadilly, hundreds of folk in red shirts, and the predominant accents were 1) london 2) scandanvian. I'm glad that a signifcant number of folk had a long and moaning journey home
