No Utd Fan, but they were totally shafted by some referee who was clearly not up to the mark. Q Why do Fifa allow these trolls to control games way beyond their capabilities??? Surely the big Fifa games should have he best refs, not some ragtag Euro shuffle?? This bloke couldn't referee a game betwem pub sides, but then they dont have pubs in turkey. FIFA hang your head in shame, your hopeless rules have put out a team that may have won the CL. And this from a non Utd fan base.
Did they get shafted though? Real had a goal disallowed, coulD have had a pen and Rafael sent off. It was a soft sending off but in Europe these things happen. This was sure as hell no Barca 09. If I was a United fan I'd feel hard done by as the sending off changed the game, but they had some luck up until that point too and they also had a lead to defend which they failed to do.
I think this guy's reffed you twice and sent off two of your players. please log in to view this image
the red card was anything but 50-50!! If his foot had been 2 feet LOWER, it would have been a definite yellow for studs up challenge for sure. The fact the challenge was at chest level, whether Nani meant it or not, made it BOTH a high challenge, AND a studs up FLYING KICK. Had to be red.
Over the two legs one team was cheated and that team was.... Real Madrid. 1st leg - Clear penalty not given. United goal came directly from a corner which should have been a goal kick. 2nd leg - Legit Real goal disallowed for no apparent reason, Rafael clear handball on the line which prevented a certain goal
It's UEFA who organise and run the Champions League and its them who appoint the referees for all Cl matches, not FIFA. The referee last night, Cuneyt Cakir, was also our referee in the Champions League semi-final 2nd leg against Barcelona last season, as well as the referee for the World Club Cup final this season so he obviously has experience at the top and in very intense games involving big teams. Is there a referee out there with the ability to slow down the game in real time for his eyes only, or be able to repeat it in slow motion from various different angles in his mind? If there is, then sure appoint them instead. If not, then we cannot blame them for not having super-human abilities. Goal line technology is not enough. Until we bring video replays into the game these things will continue to happen. Either we accept technology to its fullest extent in the officiating of the game, or we accept incorrect decisions to be made on a regular basis. Oh and just to add, Real Madrid came closer to being robbed of a place in the quarter-finals. They should have had a penalty in the first half of the first leg, a goal in the first half of the second leg and a penalty and sending off against Manchester United in the second half of the second leg.
Didn't realise it was the same ref, so thanks for that. However, all the mistakes and **** ups in the games you mention seems to suggest all the refs are hopeless !!!!! Surely there's a ref somewhere who knows what he's doing ???????
In my last post I was refering to the chart ie The John Terry incident v Barca, from what I remember JT shouldn't have been a red and Cahill was so 50/50
Not only was it technically a red card. Rafael should have been sent off. Real goal disallowed, a 100% good goal which would have put them ahead in the game and united needing to chase, exactly what they didn't want, he let a giggs challenge go that should have been yellow as well as a couple of other things. Now, unless I am wrong, jumping through the air, out of control, both feet off the ground with studs out, I believe that is the criteria for a red card, ask Kompany who never made contact with Kagawa v City. and i'll spell it out, IF you are going to go for a ball like that you'd better be sure you don't catch an opponent Nani failed to do this. It's ok to slide tackle with two feet and razor blades on your boots, if you're the only one on the pitch Should the ref have waited until someone got kicked in the head before taking out a red card? Is it that in the end the kick wasn't so bad? again, why wait on a serious injury? Seriously pensioner, you're talking utter tripe
agree mostly, plus they had 3 clear chances to score from, Rooney's field goal and RvP trying to be Torres
please log in to view this image Yeah, terrible decision. Never a red Seriously pensioner, how is that not a red, are you basing this on footy when you were a young lad in 1908
funny how things change how long have you been defending this for hahahahaaaaaaaaa please log in to view this image
Don't bother Constcrepe. It only becomes a fact when it goes against us. The majority of the pundits(excluding Roy Keane) thought it was BS. I don't agree with the OP on much but he's spot on by asking why a top ref wasn't assigned to this match. On another note, Fergie should have been aware we had this ref and should have made it explicitly clear that this guy has sent off men for less in the past. Things you'd think nothing of in the Prem are a little different in Europe.(Carraghers nice little "scratch" on Nani comes to mind )
The keeper didnt punch Vidic mate, I get where you're coming from and I'm hardly wumming am I this is the chelsea board. So Gazautd really doesn't have to take that stance of don't bother. The keeper came out straight arms, 0 punching action, they collided, Vidic went down in what was 100% play acting, red card for that, c'mon dude, we know that ain't the case, but while we're at it, what about Rafael, handball in the box. Red? What was Giggs doing pulling off that tackle, his age meant he got nowhere near the player but even the slightest contact n that would be red all day long. he was lucky the player left him in the dust on that one, but Giggs did try take the player down and was lucky he didnt manage it I also gotta point out, the ref cannot see through Vidic's massive ugly head either, how he could have called that is beyond me even if it was as you say a red, which I think it wasn't. But you cannot deny it, this is a red card offense, he saw Arbeloa late and could have pulled out somewhat, he's a silly boy, it was a mistake but we know the rules don't account for that... please log in to view this image Neither foot on the turf studs out, nowhere near the ball. He made a bad decision, the blame is with Nani not the ref, I mean, he disallowed a good real goal, hardly biased. Because he didnt intend it that's ok, so Kompany never intended to hurt kagawa, in fact he didnt touch him, he got red and you agreed.
The challenge by Nani and the challenge by the keeper were in my view the same type of challenge. Both players going for the ball, both players got beat to the ball by a split second. Both COMPLETE ACCIDENTS. How can you argue one is a red and the other not even a foul?! If you feel one deserves a red, then surely you have to say the other is a red. I feel a yellow was plenty enough in both instances. And you have to say the referring was poor all game to BOTH sides, it's just a shame that the red card had such a big impact on a great cup tie.
never said the keeper didnt foul Vidic, he didnt punch him I said. I also made a valid point that how can the ref see through Vidic's head, if he cant see it he cant give it. In the heat of the moment on ground level Nani's tackle probably looked horrific, the replay shows Arbeloa was not badly hit, but the rules say, two feet off the ground and studs out, out of control, again Kompany got red and there wasn't even contact, you mancs said it was red all day and here you are now saying that type of tackle is not red cos Nani didnt mean it, flimsy argument really. You appear to be ignoring the parts you don't have answers for mate. Also, if the ref applied the rules of the game, the exact rules without interpretation, then it is a red card. And no I don't, I mentioned Real were poor and I said it to Chelsea pensioner, you're just looking to vent, go to the Liverpool board and you can have all the arguments you want over this, hope you got thick skin I find this funny, if I posted any of this on the United board I'd face a hail of abuse I know that, followed by a ban.
