I don't necessarily buy into the bravado that Webb deliberately favours United, but their record in big games he has officiated definitely leaves cause for debate. You would think the FA would at least want a ref appointment that wouldn't cause controversy after Clattenburg earlier in the season, right? It's funny how the one ref Fergie praises gets to take charge of a game like this. The last time Webb reffed a United v Chelsea game, United were awarded 2 incorrect penalties for Evra and Welbeck dives. That was pretty much the turning point for Villas Boas, we went on a horrible run and he was eventually sacked, whilst I'd gladly take a similar outcome with this manager (just not the bad run bit) the fundamental point is Webb undoubtedly changed the game in United's favour as he did when Spurs lost at Old Trafford in the 5-2, a game that pretty much won United the title. Atkinson has not been given this fixture since Fergie heavily criticised him after they lost (deservedly) 2-1. Dean has not been given this fixture since the Drogba offside goal, which Old Whiskey still can't get over Mason won't ever get it after awarding Chelsea 2 penalties in the 5-4 cup win. It's funny how when Chelsea v United games are reffed, when Chelsea get a positive result we don't see the ref in charge ref again, yet when the reverse happens we see them shortly after. I would have happily had Mike Dean in charge, somebody that won't take sh*t off the likes of Cole, JT, Ferdinand but at the same time not fall for the theatrics of United's con artists Young, Rooney, Evra, Rafael etc
Unfortunately DL--any ref at Old Trafford tends to get steered towards Fergie's way of thinking, some more than others! What surprises me is that he isn't disciplined more than he has been. OK--a few games banned from the touchline, maybe, but whats that? What the should do is make the punishment for repeat offences a lot tougher!
They could argue that they're giving the top game to their top ref. I'd disagree, but it's easy for them to avoid suggestions of bias.
Chelsea to be down to 10 men halfway through the first half then if we still look on for anything from the game the award of a few penalties should clinch it for his paymaster.
We'd still outplay them even with 10, hence why Twattenberk had to send us down to 9 and give them an offside goal to finally overcome us. When we played them 11 v 11 they got found out and tried to play the "we had a young side out" excuse even though our side was proven to be younger
Didnt he ref the 2 1 win for us over you in 2011, cant remember any contriversy from that game, or the 8 2 or 2 0 win over Blackburn or the 3 0 win at Newcastle. This is such a myth really
you havent outplayed us for a while now and Torres should have gone earlier and Ivanovic was last man, clear red.
yeah like they would of been sent off at ot if they had of been united players. i can not believe that united fans honestly do not believe that chelsea were stitched in that game.
excuses? with a level playing field we would have a chance but the pitch at the theatre of hate is just a tad on the tilt
so when was the last time that united at home went two goals behind, got their selves level and then had two players sent off in the space of 5 minutes?
I'd be more concerned about the linesman, if it's the same one from the 3-2 then we're completely ****ed. That decision to allow Hernandez goal to stand is one of the worst i've ever seen. Still, even with decent officials we'd get beat.
Webb has been given more decisions against them since he was accused of bias I think you'll find he's perfectly fair and probably the best around at the moment for such a game
