After being all nostalgic and thinking about burnley What was your worst away trip with city and why? Perhaps you got lost on the way and ended up in cornwall, or the pies were £7.50 Mine was obviously to burnley.. Not only did we have to park about 5 miles from the ground(or so it seemed) , then abuse from some neanderthals, a sort of tenfoot we had to walk down, had a horrible pie and then finally thought id get to sit down for 10 mins before te game to be presented with seats that would be mocked in 1912 , then the infuriating goal music and chavs in the other stand mocking while burnley hammered us.. **** off burnley Any worse?
Until the Bolton game, all the other previous away games I attended we won. So it has to be the Bolton game
Millwall in the mid 80s when they beat us 5-0.Went with two non City fans from the North, told them to keep quiet as a group of blokes about my age now saying Cant see any of the Northern bastards around.,also losing to Plymouth 4-0 .Locked in afterwards pouring rain, but we sang the Hovis theme song.Always remember a copper saying you Northerners are mad!
Shrewsbury away '97-'98 season Tuesday night match. Late to the ground as I got lost in the delightful one way system, we lost, double puncture on the way home meant I had to sit and wait for a mobile tyre repair. Plus it was pissing down with rain!!!
God, there's been so many!!! Savaged by Police Alsatians in an alleyway behind the away stand at Rotherham, trampled by Police horses on a slag heap car park at Barnsleh, being stoned by home fans whilst police looked on and did nowt at Bratfud, being nearly crushed to death at The Lane as City got mullered by Spurs in the cup. The worst was Burnleh, tho, and those smug fcuking Sheffield c**nts faces in their coaches after the game. Forever hated!!! Oh, yeah, and you can add standing on an open cinder terrace at Springfield Park in the pissing rain watching your side lose to a club that belonged in non-league wasn't too great either!!!
I have a list: Brentford away lost 7-2, Houghton sacked after that. Bournemouth away lost 5-1 Bournem, outh away lost 6-2 Millwall away lost 5-0 Millwall away lost 4-0 Pompey away lost 5-1
Everton away was pretty bad, I think we only lost 2-0, but barely touched the ball, didn't have an attempt at goal etc...
Burnley wins hands down for me, I've never left a game as pissed off as I was in October 2009, if I'd met the ref outside, I'd have killed the bastard.
The 2 that stand out for me are Mansfield away, which was Hateley's first league game in charge. We arrived 10 mins after kick off and we'd taken so many fans that day we could only just see the game from the back of the stand. We got beat, quite comprehensively and then the coach broke down on the way home. It was another season that started with a limp! Second one was definitely Donny away as DJ said. Me and my mate had made cardboard coffins the night before saying 'Doncaster Rovers RIP' as they were so far behind at the bottom. We were ****. We lost. And I spent the whole game with a cardboard coffin on my head trying to keep dry. Shocking!
Rotherham away - we lost 1-0 to an Imre Varadi goal I recall - **** game and then I got beaten up at the bus station - ah the memories.....
I'll go with that one, but as someone mentioned 2-0 away at Everton was such a poor performance that was really ****.
Shrewsbury away in the 90's, advised to park in the town then walked miles to find the ground. It absolutely pissed down on the open terrace and it was bloody cold BUT we won with the last kick of the game in a flooded goal mouth. Now I've written that, realised it wasn't too bad at all.
I don't think the Everton one counts, the view's so ****, you can't see half the game anyway. Same at West Ham if you're sat at the back of the lower, it's like watching a game from inside a post box.
Probably Newcastle away in the late 80's, a night match, lost 2-1. After the match, being chased for what seemed like ages, by people who wanted to inflict serious harm on me, my brother-in-law and a mate. I would'nt mind, but I was living there at the time
I think Darlington away in the early 00's for me probably. It was one of my first away games and we were rubbish and it absolutely pissed it down on that end with no roof. Everton was bad, but I think that Darlo one will always stick in my mind.
I was back row at Everton, there was a window behind me. I never went to West Ham, did anyone go to Villa away when we lost 3-0? That was bad, Bullards knee went again, Duke headed one out for a throw and they took it quick and scored over his head, but it definitely wasn't the worst just because I remember us constantly singing "Phil Browns (black and amber army)" Even when they won a penalty we kept singing it without stopping, even when they scored it the chant just kept going
