And Liverpool are back on level terms! A lovely looping cross by Shelvey finds Adorjan who has a simple header past the Southampton 'keeper. 1-1. As you posted that, he provided the assist for Adorjan's goal!
Nice one! Is that Forren bloke the one that turned a trial down for us? If it is then bloody hell, he's playing for their reserves?! Not that it's a bad thing but the way the Southampton lot kept going on about him I thought he was just gonna slot right into their team
Yeah, that's the one! This game is his first game of any sort in a Southampton shirt. Hasn't played before tonight despite being at Southampton for six weeks. Played well to be fair. Took his goal well and has looked reasonably composed at the back. Think he's definitely one for the future.
Lovely skill and close control by Suso! Keeps the ball well and gets past about four Southampton defenders in the box! Took it a little too far though and it runs away from him. Unlucky!
Yeh, I noticed that he's quite a big lad! Had he been injured then and wasn't available to play or was he just not fancied to start a game?
Haven't heard anything about an injury. Think they just wanted to give him some time to settle in and get used to playing the way Southampton play. - Probably got 4 minutes left of the game. Still 1-1 and there could still be a winner...
Almost beautiful from Suso. Out on the left, Suso cuts in and darts his way past three Southampton defenders before his shot is palmed away by the Southampton 'keeper at the near post.
Full-Time: Southampton Under 21's 1-1 Liverpool Under 21's. - I would say that is a fair reflection on the game. First 20 minutes were tight with much of play in the middle of the park but then Southampton started to take control. Omar Rowe was excellent on the wing and his delivery from the wing was excellent as was his set-piece delivery. They deserved their goal as our inability to deal with corners came back to haunt us. Corner came deep and Forren volleyed into the corner of the net. Good finish. Southampton much the better side in the first half. The second half was much better from a Liverpool point of view. Pushed Southampton back somewhat and started to take control. Passing was better and we were creating chances. Good cross by Shelvey and a simple header by Adorjan for the Liverpool goal. Either side could have won it late on with Southampton looking good on the counter but they weren't able to create too many clear-cut chances. Special mention to Suso as well who, in the second half, was very good. Looked good on the ball and produced some excellent passes. Nearly scored a great goal at the end as well! That will certainly boost his confidence. Good response as well after the last-minute defeat to United last Monday.
That result for us also cuts the lead that Tottenham Hotspur have in our group. Spurs were 2-0 up at Wolves but ended up losing 4-3! That is a point gained on Spurs. Not sure what the table looks like but I shall try to confirm the standings in our group at some point in the next couple of days.
The Premier League website hasn't updated the tables at the moment but from what I can work out, Spurs stay top on 16 points. We are 2nd on 10 points (But with a game in hand on Spurs) and Southampton move up to joint 3rd with 9 points. Level with Manchester United who have a better goal difference.
Missed the game as I had to go out and lose at pool. Glad Suso had a good game though. Wish Coates had played, he could do with some minutes
He has been on the subs bench once, manager said he was not match fit as the Norwegian league started thier winter break in November, looks assured but still lacking full fitness. Saints fans were desperate for quality CB as we only Fonte (who was injured) Hooiveld who had a nightmare start to the season and Yoshida who had to settle in England. Whichever cbs we play in our upcoming game against liverpool will probably get ripped a new one by Saurez,Sturridge and Coutinho. A good game today and both teams can come away with a few positives
Ah okay, I didn't see his goal but Chris said it was well taken, give him time and you'll have a quality CB
