You're right for a CB he is an excellent footballer, he's certainly no slower than several other top class CBs though, I think a lot is going to depend on who he is partnered with. Stick him and Jos together and you would be in trouble, I could certainly see him and Yoshida working though.
Or he and Fonte. Yoshida has had a good season overall, but his inability to make a pass beyond six yards is problematic given our desire to play out of the back. Forren looks a better fit in that regard, definitely.
Forren and Fonte would be my ideal partnership. They're probably the two who are least likely to make mistakes, and also the two best footballers. It takes time to mould a good defensive partnership though, so I can see why we're being patient with throwing Forren into the action.
The thing with Yoshida is that his passing sometimes isn't that bad, but his decision making when playing the football is just awful, you can see the mistake he is about to make 5 seconds before he makes it. Maybe a "not that pass Yoshida" chant is required, it's such a shame as his positioning and tackling are excellent, hopefully he can have it coached out of him!
Norwich might be not be a bad game in which to introduce him, really; with Holt and/or Becchio starting upfront, there's not much worry about being done for pace.
And hopefully our high line is not going to catch us out so much when they are on the break, would be pretty embarrassing to get done by Holt on a run from the halfway line!
Just got in from the match, and it was a entertaining match to watch, where Saints were the better side or most of the match - really we should have won that. Thought Gazzaniga looked solid in goal, and Jack Stephens had a good game at centre back. Such a commanding defender. Vegard Forren looks a damn good player, scored a great goal - will be challenging Lambert soon!! He was solid, and whilst not the quickest, has great distribution on him. Hope to see him involved Saturday. Believe the hype about Matt Targett - a very good defender. Gets forward well but is also a very steady and composed defender. Andy Robinson in the middle also impressed me, his free kicks were dangerous and was generally all round a good player. Omar Rowe was the final player to stand out - very fast, very quick, very direct and has a great cross/corners from him. Wasn't too impressed with Seidi out on the wing though, and thought Jake Sinclair looked a little lost up front on his own. Other players I didn't mention were Calum Chambers, JWP, and Corby Moore who I feel didn't impact the game too much, but they weren't bad. Overall, I thought we played very well and there are some great young talents coming through!
Great game to watch. 1-1 was a fair result though Saints could have shaded it on best chances. Rowe, Foren and Targett were men of the match for Saints Gazaninga's distribution was fab. Thought McQueen made a difference coming on holding up the ball, making some good passes and tracked back really well. Ward-Prowse made some sublime passes too. Seriously think these young players are gonna make a splash over the next few years.
Hope Forren gets a go against norwich, thought he was a skinny guy but he has a bigger arse than Serina Williams
and a report to go along with the video posted above: http://sfcplayerstats.wordpress.com/2013/03/05/saints-u21s-vs-liverpool-u21s/
U21 manager pleased with Forren...says he is a technically skilled player and was asked to play him by MP as he lacked match practice.
