He's had money to spend, but has spent it either on donkeys ( Gervinho, Mertesacker, etc) or he has spent it in the wrong areas. We got Scotty Parker for £5mil - just the sort of player Wenger needs, IMO, but he chooses to ignore that, and carry on with his grand design.
The board have always said there's money to spend and Wenger's never disgreed. I'm not saying that he necessarily was just given the money and told to spend it how he likes but they clearly have a lot of faith in Wenger which is shown when he's allowed to sign a new left back straight away when Gibbs got injured, or spend £12mill on an untested Championship player. To suggest that they strictly control his spending is a little far-fetched, I think. I'm sure he could have squeezed a few more signings out of the board had he tried but when RVP left he said he did not need a replacement. Fabregas and Nasri left yet it took Wenger a further year to replace their creativity and even then he only signs one player. Even the board wouldn't want £40mill a year risked by not replacing key players that were sold, straight away.
I almost mentioned my confidence before the game, then decided not to, both not to jinx it, and because I decided I'd never make another prediction after Man U away. Anyways, on Saturday, my university gave me a navy blue and white band to use the gym. I thought, well, that's lucky. Then on Sunday I went back, but was worried I'd lose the "navy and white band" good luck effect. They proceeded to give me another navy and white band despite their stated and as far as I knew constant policy of changing colors every day. I thought, either Spurs win, or all this superstition stuff is complete BS.
