Personally I really rate Anderson, but I feel he's hugely under-used and undervalued by the BBC. His tech articles are usually pretty good, but I feel he's being pushed into doing more sensationalist articles and more being asked to define a pecking order, than explaining innovations, which is his real strength. Having to write every article through Benson probably doesn't help matters.

The BBC team is a small but incredibly knowledgeable bunch no more exemplified by Gary Anderson. A superb analyst and better than Ted Kravitz who just told us things we already knew. He was a pale shadow to James Allen in the pit lane role when he replaced him back in the ITV days.

Yea, he should head up the BBC team in my opinion and become the base foundation to the presentation, his pit lane and information stream is second to none, except EJ of course, who has no technical or analytic skills whatsoever.

It seems ridiculous that they've got Anderson, Coulthard and EJ who all know motorsport inside out, yet they let someone with a degree in "Journalism with applied fanboyism" from the University of SilverArrow, call the shots and have a significant impact on the quality of their output. They had Webber writing for them too, although I think that's stopped now, presumably because he was looking to get into journalism, but now they seem to have scared him away.

I totally agree. Im pretty sure anything that gets put up on the BBC website goes through Chief Benson. He then puts a Hamilton spin on it to get a better reaction from fair weather fans. What gets me though is its preseason and only the more hardcore F1 fans usually take an interest. I know the BBC is taking cut backs and are doing things on the cheap but their are so many private small websites that give a much better service of stories and infomation. Sky are no saints on this either.

It's hard to rate a complete and utter baffoon as an expert, to be fair. <ok>

This is a man who every year comments on the aerodynamics of the cars, and every year is proven to be about as knowledgeable as the rest of us... It was the Mclaren last year, which he panned in Autosport and said lacked the subtle design of the Red Bull and Ferrari (HAHAHAHAHAHA), and low and behold it won the first race and Ferrari didn't even get in Q3.

This year it was "the Mercedes looks dull bla bla bla... very little innovation compared with the rest bla bla bla... Not much progression there bla bla bla"... Now he's shouting from the rooftops that it's a world beater after a couple of days of testing. WHAT.AN.IDIOT. He annoys me more than thick football pundits, mainly because he's had the audacity to be in a senior role in one of the most technologically advanced sports (mainly for crap teams, admittedly), and he has limited idea what he's talking about.

He's a dinosaur who's pretending to be somekind of F1 design Maverick. He clearly isn't, or he'd be employed by one of the top teams, instead of scratching a living being an incompetent, pompus arse. I've seen much more detailed and interesting perspectives of the current cars by posters on here, all of whom deserve the tag "expert" if we're going to give the title as liberally as we are if bloody Gary Anderson is bestowed with it.

Get rid of him and EJ please!

Anderson designed this. Speed and art together. The man knows what he is talking about.

Pleasssse... It that was pink you'd think it was a dog (a shaved dog)!

I think it's pretty obvious to notice how simplistic that design is. What exactly does he know about optimisation under tight regulations? In the current climate, he's an utter dinosaur as evidenced by his frequently incorrect assertions and bogus flip-flopping when it comes to designs.

Surely any designer that the bbc/sky had as their 'expert' would fall into the same mould 'if they're that good why haven't they got a job' so clearly they don't know what they're talking about?

It's a pretty weak argument. He's retired, like Coulthard, like Brundle, yet they are free to give opinion on drivers/car handling etc. Are they qualified too as if they were still any good they'd have a drive?

He is giving an opiniion, just like you or I can. I'd still wager that what he has to say about aero in modern F1 is a bloody site better than anything we can come up with.

Of course they wouldn't. That's why it's far more interesting when they interview current engineers than former engineers <ok>

I don't see the point paying some random guy to give an opinion anybody on here could have given for free... As an "expert" he's poor. Same with football pundits like Shearer, if they have no valuable insight, get shot. It's not difficult is it?

It's down to personal choice. Either you rate a pundit or you don't (with the exception of EJ who is universally considered a prat)

I agree an opinion of someone still active in F1 is likely to be better, but they tend to be busy over an F1 weekend to provide much time for analysis on the TV and give away their secrets about what's really going on with their designs.

So we get retired folk with nothing better to do than give us their opinion based on the experience they have. And we pay the licence fee for that?! pfft, robbed.

Doubtless Anderson still has a lot of contacts in teh F1 paddock and is more up to date than you may think.

As an extra... Who would you rather talk/(author a read) about a modern F1 car, Mark Webber, David Coulthard, or Martin Brundle?

Surely the current driver, who was writing regularly for BBC Sport, was way ahead of ye Olde "I remember when" Martin at the very least?

Bad choice in picking Mark 'Whinging' Webber, but replace him with another current F1 driver and his opinion is likely to be more relevant. Again though, during a race weekend they tend to be busy driving so it makes it a bit difficult.

Coulthard only retired a few years ago so he's fairly up to date and both he and Brundle have regular experience of driving modern F1 cars so they have got a reasonable feel for them.

EJ might be a so called "prat" but when he says something is going down like Lewis/Schumacher/Lowe to Mercedes and other bombshells, I already consider them facts! Which is scary.

With gossip EJ is the man!

For every one he gets right, he gets about 10 wrong!

If you put enough rumours out, one is bound to be true eventually :)
