True. I doubt Bridge votes for Terry, though! <laugh>

I imagine professionals are more above the media circus than us fans.

Plus, they might have actually met and spoken to him at matches, events etc and know what he's like - apparently he's a lovely man off the pitch.

Also... professionals (in the media at least) seem to give him great acclaim for his tenacity/work ethic in equal measure to disapproval of his... antics.

Even Roy Keane had fans for goodness sake.

I wouldn't question his ability Reverend or his work ethic clearly is one of the best in the league at the moment.

But I don't need the media to point out hes a horrible ****er I can see that for myself and no doubt that will go against him in the player of the season award.

Which surely shows a problem with the award, I suppose - it's inherently subjective.

A few deserving candidates this year though. Won't be a repeat of the Giggs farce.

  7. If I am to be brutally honest with myself, I'd have to say that Goofy played an absolute blinder for you, this weekend, as did that young Brazilian lad. If only you had at least 9 more players like those 2, you'd be in with a should of top 4.

We'd be in with a fair shout if it wasn't for personal errors, unfortunately (think Reina, Skrtel in particular).

But then again that's not really an excuse!

I love the way fans talk as if they know these players personally and can make informed judgements on their character/personality. **** me its pathetic.

Since everyone else is doing it I'll jump in too. I have a good friend who I grew up with at School who used to play for Liverpool and now plays for Leeds but is till in contact with a lot of LFC people. He says whats so funny is that Suarez is genuinely one of the nicest, down to earth friendly people at the club and LFC staff, who obviously know him well, think this pantomine villian character thats been created by the media to portray Suarez is hilarious as it couldn't be further from the truth. He's one of the most popular people at the club.

Thats my contribution, but at least some of mine is based on information from people who know him and have been around him a lot.

He's the best player in the league and has made a bigger contribution to his team in terms of goals and assists than any of his peers, and has also been doing this all season not just in runs or purple patches. Nothing else matters a jot and for that reason alone he should win every player of the year award this season unless he suffers a sudden massive drop in form and performance for the last 10 games.

If he doesn't win it then he's had th piss taken out of him and our game in this country will be even more of a laughing stock off the field.

That is possibly the most ******ed post I have ever read and I spend a lot of time on Newcastle boards.

Aaah I see someone has alredy put you straight.

Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Everton with Spurs, Everton and Chelsea to come at Anfield.

You measure contribution to your team by goals scored and assisted and Suarez is top overall for that so I think you need to start worrying about actual "fachts" as Rafa would say.

I know people hate us and Suarez but you really are scrapping the barrell by trying to downplay his ability as a football player and his performance this season.

Serious question. There's a thread on our board praising AVB which is warranted as he's certainly doing a good job. One poster on thread asks how far away are you from making a genuine title challenge next year, and says you need another quality CB, CM and a striker. I agree but reckon you need two strikers as Defoe is high quality though injury prone, and Adebayor doesn't seem to be doing it consistently. If you add this to your squad I think you'd be pretty close. Thoughts?

it's very hard to say, as we don't know what the future holds for Bale in terms of his position on the field, or whether he'll be with us at all.

but IMO, it's something like this:

Definitely don't need a CB. Dawson, Verts, Caulker and Kaboul are very strong in that position.
Need a young DM to replace Parker, as he's not got long left. (don't personally rate Livermore, especially at the standard we're hypothetically talking about here)
Need a top striker to replace Adebayor.
Need another top creative midfielder as we only have Dembele.
If Bale becomes a striker, we need another winger. We've had no threat on the left since bale went central. Not sure Townsend is going to be up to CL standard, to be honest, especially if that left side becomes more permanent.

Hopefully these additions should also make the squad stronger. Our bench is poor in terms of people who can come on and make a difference.

  14. We don't need another CB. Depending on how Holtby, Dembele, Livermore, and Santos develop for us, we may not need another creative/attacking midfielder (although Spurs have always been reknowned for snapping the best in creative midfield talent, over the years - think of the likes of Hoddle, Waddle, Gazza, Ginola, etc).

We do, however, definitely need at least a couple of strikers, one of which must be a marque signing, possibly breaking our previous transfer record. Adebayor is not good enough for the level that we are aspiring towards, and Defoe, albeit that he may well be one of the most naturally gifted strikers on the planet, simply is far too inconsistent to justify his place in a perennial top 4 side.

I think what you need is a striker of Suarez's quality!

Maybe a top left back would help too. Have to say Spurs have bought and sold brilliantly the past few years. Lovely feel to parts of your squad now.

As you can see your second post is an apt description of your first. What the flying **** are you on about???

So according to you, because you haven't met, or know some one who's met a person your describing, that means you can't possibly know what they are really like does it?? I can only assume this is imbecile logic.

Personally I have not, nor do I know anyone who's met the Queen, apparently she's a nice lady, but if we use Toelas theory I shall assume she's a nasty old bitch till I can prove it myself.

So what if one person you know thinks Suarez is a great person?? Before they were caught, I expect the neighbours of Fred and Rose West thought they were a nice couple! Suarez is slated because he's a cheat, a dirty tackler (find one of Bale going over the top) and a racist, not because he talks pleasantries and the weather with someone random.

In your defence, Eric Cantona was nominated while under his long ban, thing there is, despite his wrongdoing, people outside United still liked Cantona! :)

  17. I'd like a striker with Suarez's abilities, but I wouldn't want Goofy any where near Spurs. We have a tradition of not giving any truck to racists or nasty pieces of work.

As regards a LB, most Spurs fans will tell you they are more than happy with Benny. Plus, we've nicked that young LB prodigy off United, whom I would expect to be the next Ashley Cole, if all the hype surrounding him is anything to go by. Certainly, old bacon face wasn't too pleased about losing him to us.

Robert Huth might be a great guy off the pitch too but that doesn't mean that he's not a twat on the pitch. Ultimately that's where they'll be judged for their character so Suarez will largely be looked on as a dirty player and a cheat. It's not cooked up by the media and I wouldn't be that surprised if Suarez picked up the one voted for by football writers, there are plenty of Liverpool loving pundits and journos that will vote for Suarez regardless.

If it came down to who was the best player in the league it would go to RVP, followed by Yaya Toure and Kompany. It's about who's having the best season though, which is why Suarez and Bale are in with a shout.

I'm assuming you were talking about his contribution as in goals/assists to team goals scored as RVP has more combined goals and assists but what does that matter? All it does is show that Liverpool rely on him more than United to RVP but you'd expect that since RVP is playing for a side at the top of the league and Suarez is definitely not. Even if you ignored that you're saying Suarez is better and said they were equally good, if you placed one player in the best side in the league and one in a midtable side, you'd expect that the player in the lower league side would contribute a bigger portion of their goals. You'd expect his goals to have contributed more points too but it hasn't which is the only reason Liverpool fans aren't shouting out that particular stat from the rooftops. Funnily enough, Van Persie still contributes You can pick and chose stats all you want but we've all seen them play regularly over the season but I can't see past RVP for deserving player of the year at the moment.

And we could be even further ahead if we didn't have the Modric saga interruping our start to the season again. It's all 'ifs' and 'buts', I'm sure every fan has a reason that their side is not higher in the league.

In defence we're very strong, although I'm not a big fan of Naughton as our cover for both fullbacks. In midfield, we definitely need an out and out playmaker, perhaps another defensive mid and definitely another quality winger. Up front we need a top striker and probably a third choice backup, assuming Ade leaves. So that's a top playmaker, winger and striker with possibly come better backup in a couple of areas too. It's quite a lot when you think about it really, although we might be able to do it with less and a bit of luck.
