My final part was tongue-in-cheek and aimed at the likes of Girvan and that sad **** Bollo.

But you're right. It is all point-scoring and oneupmanship. In fact, I just started a thread about it on 606.

Celtic introduced it on a grand scale, he also stated what most of us know, that the clubs played up to these things as it benefited them commercially.

Celtic introduced it? Or was it the fact that a football club with a large catholic following showed up the bigots for what they are?

For Celtic didnt do anything other than set up a football club (just like Rangers) we didnt form an anti protestant club. Had Celtic not been set up for irish catholics to follow you wouldnt have had an issue with Celtic. So what you are in fact saying is that celtic showed up the anti catholic irish bigots

so where does the issue come from? The fact irish people had a football club to follow or the fact other people didnt like that fact?

PS once again....no matter what Celtic fans sing or do....whats that got to do with what rangers fans sing or do?

Yes we have our own problems....many of them. But if Celtic fans sing boys of the old brigade does that somehow mean the famine song is okay?

    <laugh> Big kisses too ST.

I've just had enough of what I've saw from the behavior the Celtic Minded this season.
It may be point scoring and one-up-man-ship but it went to whole new level this year. It's been quite pathetic!

You can't be reasoned with so why bother trying!

**** the lot of you <laugh>

    Anport,

First of all, I always frown on us using todays moral values to judge history.

The fact is that Celtic were pro-Catholic, Scotland had worked vigorously during the reformation to banish all things Catholic and the fact that perhaps RC's were coming back, when there was a deep sense of mis-trust between the indigenous and foreigners.

Back then, I'd imagine that there was a sense of resentment, that a foreign team were winning things, perhaps for both clubs financial gain, they decided to become friends, (a newspaper clip from 1890odd showed how journos of the time commented on the clubs friendship).

You may know or not, that a Scottish Cup final was abandonned in the early 20th Century after 2 replays, the teams looked like drawing again, and the fans of Rangers and Celtic rioted, as they thought the clubs were in cahoots to milk the support and were drawing on purpose.

    Hence the Old Firm tag.

It's also common knowledge, that Desmond Whyte, ex-Celtic Chairman, used to visit Ibrox every second Ne'er and have a dram and sing GSTQ in the Ibrox Boardroom.

So both clubs have been in cahoots over the years, and at Boardroom level at least, we've always got on, until very recently.

When Celtic won the EC, Rangers manager Willie Waddell went to the Airport to congratualte Jock Stein.

There's even footage of Celtic clapping Rangers onto the field after an impressive European result.

In recent history though, relations between fans and clubs has broken down.

And in my opinion, it's all through the point scoring exercises on both sides, I was recently banned from FF for pointing out that they were trying to out-MOPE the MOPEs.

The 'youse are all bigots' levelled at Rangers fans creates a resentment at your mob singing Up the Ra.

I prefer to look at things in a simpler manner, both clubs have arseholes, if they weren't singing about Fenians and Ira's they'd be singing about something equally offensive (to some).

At the end of the day, the only real gem in Scottish Footballs crown is having one of the most intense derby's in the world, and we're all in danger of neutralising it for the sake of point scoring.

Fair points Edge <ok> I was just asking for clarification on what it was you were saying where the origins of the bigotry came from.

there is a lot of point scoring between both clubs - and i have no doubts both use it to their advantage

INdeed ive said on here before that without question the "trouble" element of celtics support if you were to look closely could be all called neds....and if you did likewise in your support im sure the numptys who sing the songs that got you in trouble with UEFA could also be called neds. So whilst they claim to be very different they are in fact very similar

Everyone thinks your'e "Gay" Shaun, that's all that really matters is'nt it?

As for your bulging inbox what a load of old ****e you really do talk son, i'm pretty sure if people were laughing at me they would do so on an open forum and not PM you to say so. Like your feeble "sumbudy emailed me the other night laughing at you" pish.

    ****ing tard that you are.

Exactly the point the guy from Nil by Mouth made...

Instead of "whatabouterry", the actual issues need to be tackled!

The programme was a load of ****e anyway, same old drivel with no real insight!

The two fans having a discussion was pointless and fans comments showed no insight to any issue!

Also, two peices of footage from the Youth cup final shown over and over again - not really evidence of a problem!

Typical BBC Scotland - shameful bandwagon jumping ****s (just like the SNP)

if you ever read the tags Russell you would spot the odd "empty inbox now" tag.

you can only have 50 messages in total. it's pretty easy to fill it up. luckily we've all checked the ''delete once sent'' box now. no clogging <ok>

some interesting curry night shots doing the rounds
