Discovered this one when it was all we had left in the Compo rations: Take 2 slices of white Wonderloaf (medium), spread both it lashings strawberry jam, then lather in copious amounts of tinned salmon, add white pepper to taste and discover a real sandwich!
A reuben is corned beef, swiss cheese, thousand island dressing and sauerkraut on rye bread. Do you not have that there? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reuben_sandwich The italian is full of different italian meats, cheeses, oil and viniger stuff like that. Wikipedia doesnt give a standard recipe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Submarine_sandwich
Sauerkraut (yum!) and thousand island dressing ? wtf That whole sandwich just sounds wrong. Bet it's ace.
Heh I was thinking that. Although I normally associate thousand island dressing with prawns. In a red wine glass, bit of lettuce and a quarter lemon. White bread, buttered, with the crusts cut off. Thats how the middle classes roll, so I am told.
US sandwich combo's are not so common here. The Reuben is obviously known worldwide, so is available here, but I've never heard of an Italian. The Reuben is not so popular here, we have the more authentic Salt Beef Sandwich here instead. It's basically a Reuben, but it's just Rye, with hot corned beef and mustard, usually served with pickles.
Saying it like *jalapeno* is like saying *Hull*. It's pronounced "Halapeno" and obviously *Ull* Basics that Party. Regarding Carmine, I wasn't going to insult him if Im honest, as I knew he was more upper middle, and probably has pate with toast as a starter. I was thinking more along the lines of you Chazz and your mid winter breaks to Spain.
I 'm working class at heart but Icahn understand why others see me as MC, unbelievable dress sense coupled with a Lambrini lifestyle. But what can I do. As an alternative to my bacon tomato and black pudding ciabatta. Substitute the black pudding for Chorizo, ****ing lovely.
If we are now talking US sandwiches, you can't beat a Philadelphia Cheesesteak Sandwich from South Philadelphia. It consists of thinly sliced steak, cheese of choice, and optionally fried onions cooked on a grill as you wait in line and placed in a roll slit down the middle. Still doesn't beat a chip buttie though. Surprised no one has mentioned Marmite sandwiches, banana sandwiches, Spam sandwiches or Corned Beef sandwiches before me.
