Does it have long hot summers tempered by refreshing sea breezes, idyllic uncrowded beaches, and a choice of quality tavernas?

So what you are saying is the bigotry in football in scotland came from those intolerant of the irish/catholics? For what else did these people do except for being irish and catholic?

Or is it celtics fault for some people not being scotish protestants?

There was a substantial migration of Irish people to Scotland during the 19th century, particularly after the Irish Potato Famine. Most settled in the Glasgow area, but a small proportion made their way through to Edinburgh. The Cowgate was known as Little Ireland at the time, due to the concentration of Irish people in the area.

The St. Patrick's Church in the Cowgate had founded a Catholic Young Men's Society (CYMS) in 1865. The Irish community was not integrated into the wider Edinburgh community, but Canon Edward Hannon was looking for a way to achieve this.

Michael Whelahan suggested to Canon Hannon that the CYMS should form its own football club. In a meeting on 6 August 1875, Hibernians was founded, with Canon Hannon as its first manager and Whelahan as its first captain.

This was done as part of the celebrations to mark the centenary of the birth of Daniel O'Connell. Hibs players had to be members of the CYMS. Because of this policy, Hibs have been accused of being the first sectarian football club in Scotland, a charge commonly levelled at Rangers.

The club was intended to be an organisation for young Catholics to pursue a life of temperance and religious adherence by offering top-class football to them.

No, what he said was that Celtic, being the immigrant club, and funded in part by the church, led to a sense of resentment from the indigenous population, thrusting Rangers forward as the peoples club to fight the foreign team. He also was quick to point out that not all Irish were RC btw.

He stated, that we've always know, is that Rangers were formed out of a love for football, and nothing else. <ok>

    By who?

Rangers had Catholics playing for them before Celtic were even formed.

As I didn't watch the programme I can only take your subjective view of what he said. But you said that Prof. Devine said "Celtic introduced religion into Scottish football" and that is clearly not true so either he got it wrong or you misinterpreted what he said.

    Isn't that enough?

I couldn't have given the program air time. The Scottish 'faux' shame has been embarrassing since the dirty tricks, sniping and grassing started up.
It'll blow up in the very faces of the o'ffened <ok>

People like Bollo Bollo are just another example of why Rangers are so associated with bigotry and intolerance.

Until 17th century throwbacks like him are removed from society Rangers will never move forward.

Celtic introduced it on a grand scale, he also stated what most of us know, that the clubs played up to these things as it benefited them commercially.

But, what disppoints me most about the programme was that it never dealt with the issues in hand.

    The Offended.

"You can't sing Fenian, as it offends me"

    PADDY MCCOURTS FENIAN ARMY banners.

The fact of the matter is, you only get offended to score points.

The thing is, at Ibrox since Yoofa-gate, the singing has been absolutely immense, and not one person can deny that.

Meanwhile at Tynecastle, Celtic fans do this:

Until those associated with Celtic can just shut the **** and stop being a bunch of hypocritical ambulance chasing deflecting ****ers and for once just get on with things nothing will change.

    Scotland embarrassment <ok>

But you're just involving yourself in the usual tit-for-tat bollocks that underlies the problem. "You're bigots"..."Nah, you're the bigots"..."Here's a youtube clip of you singing bigoted songs"..."Here's a youtube clip of you with bigoted banners" etc.

And please don't start this ****e about being offended. You know I could easily rattle of a list of Rangers fans being offended by everything from Coronation Street to a weather girl making a joke. Both sides are as bad as each other (apart from on here where the only really bigots are Rangers fans I'm afraid.)

That's the problem ST, people will always point the finger at the other lot.

Aye but..... to coin a phrase made popular by me <****eye><biggroin>

The "problem" is that too many people want to point score over absolute bullshit, whipped up by publicity crazed journalists.
