    Moderate OT threads ARE - by what the poll seems to be concluding atm.

    The call for provision for immoderate OT, i.e. a sub-forum, first needs to be approved in principle by the site owner.

    Then he'll probably want to know how we (QPR users) intend to use the sub-forum before he actually provides us with one. This would involve having to explain the following:

    - acceptable content;
    - how a sub-forum would be likely to impact on our main forum;
    - security (e.g. PM'd password) - to prevent the public and/or 'vulnerable' people (children etc.) from gaining access;
    - management; and so on.

    To date, we have consulted the SuperMod (who says it's not his department).

    We then unsuccessfully PM'd the site owner who controls the software and is the only person who can grant our request for a sub-forum.

    We then found out (two weeks later) that he doesn't answer PMs.

    So we then (a few days ago) opened a thread addressed to the site owner on the Mod Board. We know he's goes there from time to time. Our OP states what our needs are and why - and asks for an urgent response.

    As soon as he responds, I'll let you know what he's saying.

    So in other words, if we don't get the sub-forum we'll be left with a more sanitised version of what we have now? Christ help us.

    As I asked before, is there any chance we can hold back the implementation of these new "main forum" measures until its confirmed we'll get a sub-forum? If they don't go hand in hand then one side will have gotten their wish whereas the other side won't.

    Brix, the administration/management of this site sounds like a Kafka novel.

    Swords, I don't read it like that at all. In the absence of a sub forum the existing rules apply, and will be enforced as they are now. As a sub forum could only be for abusing fellow posters, posting porn, or attempting to be outrageous (in a Frankie Boyle type way) and most of us would never go there anyway, and we have General Chat for all that already, I don't see what you would be missing. Unless like Cerny your afraid of mixing it with Scotsmen.

    Could any one in favour of a sub forum please give some examples of what they would want to post on there which they feel they can't post on the main board?

    Thanks for your consideration Kiwi but from a modding point of view, our personal opinions are at best irrelevant and at worst, counterproductive to what we're trying to achieve here.

    The whole consultation / review thing is about us mods needing directions and/or advice from the users on what and how you want us to mod stuff that's been coming in lately. Stuff like ongoing personal baiting, potentially inflammatory political type threads and sex pictures for example that have moved the modding goalposts beyond what they were in our first year or so.

    As a result, without the board as a whole deciding where the lines should be redrawn, our decisions will increasingly be based on our personal value systems rather than those of the forum as a whole. Then when we're accused of censorship and puritanism, we'll have no defence and may well end up alienating and factionalising what is and must go on being a very good forum.

    We (ALL) need to be patient and manage this thing as carefully as we can. We're getting there though, not far to go now.

    We can approach it from another angle then if you like.

    Whilst I'm not suggesting we do this, we can easily set up a poll on here to take a majority decision on whether we want a sub-forum for the QPR board or not...

    As it stands, we mods are doing all we can to try accommodate everyone as I've said from the outset. However, if that's not good enough, we'll do the poll instead. Your choice mate.

    If that's the case (and I really hope it is) then why are we having a vote on the status quo on this very thread? Maybe you're right but the word "Moderate" scares me because that could mean that any thread that might generate a good debate would be deemed out of bounds. The thread titles don't bother me per se as I rarely, if ever, start threads but for those that do, it could mean an end to it.

    I've mixed it with the Sweaty's when I was exiled from this Board and the Celtic lads banned me from the off whereas the Rangers ones were well up for it. I thought it might have been the other way around but there you go.

    For example, the "white British in London" one that Aussie started recently and it was shut down. That would be a good topic for a sub-forum and it would be allowed run its course without interference. Queens said that if such a forum was created he would start a no holds barred debate on racism and its effects in London and elsewhere. There are loads of meaty topics that could be put up there yet they wouldn't interfere with the main forum.

    Na mate, you're doing a great job constructing this process. I'm just acting the prick as usual.

    Whatever the decision I'm behind you.

    You'd have to look back for my post on round 2 for my multi forum sales pitch.

    One sub forum where all OT threads go wouldn't work because I already get the feeling a few can't wait to run amok. It sounds like no well meaning thread would go unpolluted.

    My original thoughts would satisfy all people (football only, a polite mix of footy and OT, and the deviants) and potentially make modding easier too.

    I voted for the status quo, although as I don't come here so often these days I'm not sure it should count.

    I might be wrong but I believe this vote is asking if you want the main forum to stay as it is, or become a football only forum.

    If you vote to keep it as it is and you get a sub forum then the currently allowed OT threads would continue here, but rather than closing/deleting the more dodgy threads the mods could just move them into the sub forum.

    If you voted to make it football only and got the sub forum then ALL OT threads would be moved to the sub forum.

    The vote is potentially being skewed by the uncertainty over the chances of getting a sub forum. There could easily be people voting to keep it as it is because they know others like the OT threads and don't want to be responsible for taking that away, but if a sub forum did exist they'd rather all the OT threads were kept there they just don't want to vote to go football only and then find there's no sub forum.
