Has to be Chamakh. He was BRILLIANT for Bordeaux, and it was not just in the French League, he was also outstanding in the CL for them. He started well but never recovered after he got dropped for RVP.

    Can LFC play?

For me, just personally, ****ing Harry Kewell. How awesome was he at Leeds? then just turned into a sick note and every single year " Having Kewell back is like having a new signing" I really wanted him to work out as well.

Another was Morientes..... how he did not work out is beyond me.

I think Gus Caesar and Perry Groves deserve mentions.

Arshavin's downward spiral seemingly came about in November 2009. Russia were in the play-off round of qualifying round for the 2010 World Cup: they won the first leg 2-1 at home vs. Slovenia but lost the second leg 1-0 away four days later, going out on away goals. The rumour is that Andrei returned to London as a shell of the man who left the week or so earlier, and he's never really recovered. There were undoubtedly other factors at play, but this may well have been the catalyst for his subsequent torpor.

The psychological side is easy to overlook, hard to judge (and even harder to measure) and is often downplayed when it comes to sport. Yet it often seems to be a huge factor when determining whether a player makes it or fails on certain stages.

Maybe for mentally challenged people like you, but in case you hadn't noticed Walcott is our top scorer this season.

Why? I'm not having a go (okay, maybe a bit :p), but I truly believe that if it hadn't been for that game, Reyes would of gone on to do some great things for us. Up until that game he seemed to have it all, after it? Well, he just never seemed to be the same to me.
Vela was also quite dissapointing though, but if the rumours of a buy-out clause are true maybe he'll have a second shot, and Arshavin brought us the champions league qualification, so for that alone I think he met expectations, regardless of what followed

    Has to be Clive Allen.

Came very highly rated and didn't start a single competitive match. His career went downhill fast after that and he ended up at spuds eventually.

We swapped him for Kenny Sansom. We did alright!

Clive Allen must be the strangest signing we ever made.
I think Terry Mancini deserves a special mention as one of our worst signings <whistle>

Remember when we signed David Platt? He did alright (especially the goal against Utd) and it was toward the end of his career but he didn't set the world alight.

This thread shows how short the memory is of some Arsenal fans.

Anyone who thinks Arshavin was a bad signing either doesn't watch Arsenal play, doesn't understand football or simply dislike him due to his lack of game time/fitness/effort in recent times.

As i have just said in another thread - Arshavin was well worth the money. He got us top 4 when we signed him. In his first 2 seasons he was truely World Class. Even after that he maintained a goal/assist per game for most of his time and a goal/assist per 2 games the rest of the time. He is one of the most effective players who has put on an Arsenal shirt in the last 8 years. He has VERY impressive stats. So despite his drop off in form he continued to be a very useful player for us.

Everyone forgotten his winner against Barca? How about the assist for Henrys winner at Sunderland last season?

Sorry but anyone who thinks he was a bad signing is a fool. He has more than justified his price tag and to try and name him the most dissapointing signing we have made is truely pathetic.
