- To watch competitive football (obviously if it's attractive, that helps, but I'm not one of these glory supporters who changes from Arsenal to Barca to Swansea to Accrington based on who plays the neatest one-metre passes 900 times a game) - To be a part of the atmosphere and collective spirit (is there any other daytime event where you might regularly find yourself chatting to, having a laugh with and occasionally embracing complete strangers these days?) - To show my pride/support for my city and county - Because I'm slightly deranged
You got a team in Norway you go and watch from time to time, NH? Haugesund looks nearest on Wikipedia?
Nearest is Bryne FK have been a few times they are in the second division , Nearest top league side is Viking Stavanger (who have started badly this season) I have suffered them once)
Why do you go to football matches?............ Well as said to me by a bloke twice my size and totally out of his face boozed up, on the coach on the way to Bournmouth for the cup game that we finally won. The game with Kevin Phillips getting battered by a copper, as the copper thought he was a supporter because after winning the penalty shoot-out a few supporters ran on the pitch to celebrate the fact that we can finally go home after watching one of the worst games EVER, he blerted out while pretending to inject himself while saying........"It's in the blood!!! " Football/Watford is in the blood! (Couldn't really disagree with him)
I just love being there and watching everything that happens on the pitch rather than what the TV shows you. I have often been to watch St Albans play and although they are awful and I don't really care whether they win I prefer it to watching the premier league on the box. Nothing of course compares to Watford ( in terms of enjoyment if not unfortunately standard of football).
Hoping to see a win and have a enjoyable time as such really. Won't always be perfect but if you see some effort and the team giving it a go then its not so bad if the result isn't right.
The atmosphere & tension at big night time cup or top of the league games with adrenalin flowing can't be beaten. I've had some great experiences at the Vic over the years. I'm afraid sitting through 95 mins of hoofball is depressing (5mins injury time added for neck massages to midfield players etc) even if we do win. A mix is ok; or even if we defend like deamons and score on the break - but we pay to be entertained & on the whole I have been over the last 2 seasons & I think it will be even better next seasom!
lol i do rugged rather than pretty Leonardo...and when we were in the Prem, Ryan Giggs had the best legs in the League lol...that's official btw ...Hornette knows these things! But apart from good legs, i go for the atmosphere, to scream and holler and sing and jump up and down and laugh and cry and have my emotions go through the wringer! I blinkin' love it..even the bad bits...but i honestly don't care about pretty football! lol
My daughter's in laws live next door to Ryan Giggs - she was out with her baby last week and he was walking his dog - but she did not speak to him - did not think you would do "pretty" footballers H - and no need for a poll as I don't think anyone else will either
aw, she should! i had a friend who used to live opposite Gary Mabbutt...he used to do a lot of gardening in shorts lol. Nope, you're right there Leonardo
The euphoria of your team scoring a goal... thousands of people losing themselves for those few seconds... Being part of a huge crowd, all cheering for the same thing! The feeling of winning But mainly, watching something I enjoy... I love playing, watching, talking football, and even better when it's 'my' team! I watch lots of football on TV, but it doesn't come close to be in the stadium watching Watford, singing Watford sogns, surrounded by other Watford fans!!
I must admit, the away game in Cardiff summed a lot of it up for me... other than the actual result. The excitement of travelling to an away game, the walk to the stadium, the atmosphere inside, the disappointment after but being proud of the team, and after the game I was in the Walkabout on my own and heard a couple of Cardiff lad chatting about the game, butted in and then just got chatting about football for ages!
All of the above I want us to win .. yes and as said above even Aidy's way I enjoy the atmosphere... I only go a few times a season so it is very special I havent lived in Watford for 38 years or so but when I see Watford fans it is like I am home again Then of course there is the dream.... that one day...
we`ll have a 4 sided stadium? A rich owner? No debt? Totally homegrown squad?(nearly there) Or do you mean another tilt at the prem?
