Sparkey - I agree with you. But we are where we are. Love him for what he has done financially or loath his plans for the future, it is undeniable that Tan saved us from the financial disaster the club had become. A name change would be a step too far for many but I can't see myself ever turning my back on a club that I have supported for most of my life.

For me it's as simple as that and possibly many feel the same. The worrying thing for me is what would happen if we failed to win promotion and the name change plans still went ahead. That would give many fans a good excuse to walk away. This season could be make or break.

Thus in answer to the original question I would continue to support the club even if the name changed.

We will achieve our promotion as Cardiff City FC..............The Bluebirds.
No one can take that or our history away from us.

I will keep an open mind on the future and wait and see on any changes.

I am one who grudgingly accepted the shirt colour but whatever the future brings we will always be Bluebirds!

Here's my take on things. I listened on the radio to clips of tonights Sport Wales. Clearly they baited tonights viewers with sensationalised juicy bits, but I will tell you this, if he changes the name of our club that will be it for me. I have already financially committed to next season and will ride the storm. I find his timing incredible when we should all be united (perhaps thats' an option) and supporting the boys on the field in what is potential history in the making.

If he is serious about changing our name but concerned about objection then he is naieve in the least. To impose change without some form of consultation is rudeness, something he himself objects to. I may be wrong but it gives me the impression that a fan revolt may be an objective rather than something to be avoided.

It's political! just as In politics they leak information out ( source always unknown) to test reaction. No different with this, but judging by the reaction here (sane people), and Walesonline (not so), looks dodgy. I for one will not react, change is inevitable in all aspects of life. I think one thing is obvious, football as it stands cannot survive, needs to adapt and move on.

Hamman wanted to change our name to Cardiff Celts and play in green - it didn't happen.

I think everyone's latched onto different quotes from different parts of the interview. When I saw it on the news this morning it looked like a loaded question, something along the lines of "There are rumours of changing the name to Cardiff Dragons, is this true" and he replied, saying that he hadn't thought about it at all and will look where we are at the end of the season, then if he thinks a change (of anything) will be good then he'll do it.

For me, all he did was not rule it out but admitted that he hadn't thought about changing the name - i.e. it's only rumour.

Today's news will be an upset for many I am sure. But many strange people are taking a delight in it- mostly opposing club fans. Coming off the back of the shirt and badge, it feels like a step too far. But as the man said, he feels it is the right thing to do for the overall benefit.
On a related note, I just don't understand this use of the word 'franchise'. To me, 'franchise' means buying into a product which is strictly controlled for a regular fee. Thus, only the Premiership or the Football League can sell franchises for teams to play in their leagues. All teams would then be franchises. What we have is a bloke who wants to own the club and use it to further his aims elsewhere, as a result of the success of the club. What we get is the club success.....something we have wanted for years. I can see him investing more too....he has said 25 million for strengthening but that will only help us survive. We will need even more to then get success in the Premiership. He needs that and the by-product for us will be even more success.
But is this too much to pay? For myself, I have craved success for so long and been so near so many times, I am afraid I will cave in.
I suspect others are simply jealous.

cheers for the 'could be worse' input Shiny, we could be your lot and have you as a fellow fan.

Like Whoops I'll still be a fan even if the name changes and I'll continue to buy my ST until I can't afford to or they move from Cardiff.

I would however be willing to protest against this, but I wouldn't want to be part of a VT out agenda. I certainly wouldn't want to be allied with the death threat/racist/ill informed/better dead than red, bull **** that fills some of the other forums and protests.

    In Peace.

I know I'm a Bristol City fan, but I am Welsh, work in Wales and have a lot of Cardiff fans as friends. But if this is allowed to happen I don't fear for your club I fear for the whole football league. We could end up with an American football franchise where, the buyers just move around taking their name with them etc.

As much as this pains me to say this I want you to go up, but as he Cardiff City I know. They played in blue, called the bluebirds and called Cardiff City FC

My grand kids are possibly going to do what I done follow my grandparents team or with their friends follow Cardiff I dont want to say did you know they were once called Cardiff City, played in blue and called the bluebirds. Only a few over a certain age remember MK Dons was once Wimbledon in 20 -30 years it will probably just become a trivia question.

Don't let this happen to your club, as one poster already said you will be in a lot better position if you oppose the idea he sells and you have to find a new buyer in Prem.

Some of you will tell me to **** off, it's your clubs business. That's ok I just don't want to see the start of the footballing name like the American Football <ok>

I just wonder how these questions were put to him, the media is renowned for feeding answers within the questions and to someone who comes from a background of honour and maybe a little naivety when it comes to football clubs and their history perhaps the interviewer got exactly the answers he was looking for
I will say that this couldn't have come at a worse time for the players if it kicks off into demos etc

This could be the old ploy that British manufacturing uses.

Get a rumour started of big changes, get everyone up in arms then announce a small change and every one think they have won.

I notice he said if I'm wanted I could be here for many years if not I could sell up.

    EDIT

"If the fans welcome me, I can stay for a long time," he said, promising a further £25m to manager Malky Mackay for new players should they go up.

"But if I find they are not welcoming and rude, then maybe I will find a new buyer and go off. But if I were to sell, I'd make sure I would leave it in good hands."

It isn't a prerequisite to be Welsh to add lucid comments to a sensible thread such as this one fella. Your comment adds a broader view of opinions and is welcome. <ok>
Shame about your intellectually challenged fellow Bristolian.

Part of the question and answer process is to include the meat of the question in your response, which VT has done. If is quite possible he hadn't given a name change a second thought but I very much doubt it. Now it's out there and he has acknowledged it (the rumour) he is now free to give it a lot more thought. However, what is the law (FA, UEFA, FIFA) around changing the name of an existing club? Is it that easy? Answers on a postcard please.
