Turns out in addition to the 2012 car, Goss also designed the 2008 and 2010 cars so McLaren might not be in as much trouble as some are saying.
Tim Goss entered Formula 1 with Cosworth in 1986 before joining McLaren as a design engineer in 1990. He has held many roles within the team, including stints as chief test team engineer, head of vehicle dynamics and chief engineer powertrain – a role in which he oversaw the introduction of the sport’s first-ever seamless-shift gearbox in 2005. Outgrowing his role as chief engineer, he was appointed director of engineering in January 2011. He oversees all aspects of car specification, top-level target-setting and priority engineering projects. In February 2013, Tim was appointed technical director of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes. http://www.mclaren.com/formula1/page/technicaldirector

Start a new thread please, this topic is about Paddy Lowe the best engineer since Newey, not his understudy
I guess it would make sence that Mclaren have the more talented members of staff in lower positions. Maybe someone out there is better than Whitmarsh
Marc Priestley ‏@f1elvis Also understand that Paddy Lowe's been moved onto the McLaren GT3 project for 2013, so the garden may have to wait.
erm....yeah! haha! there are loads of people at Mclaren that are better than Whitmarsh (looks like the baddy from die hard 3) haha
I think that's unfair, Lowe was apparently ready to move to Williams for the Team Principal role. Personally I think he'd be much better in the role than Whitmarsh is, it would've been fairly straightforward for McLaren to keep him.
