And by sitting deep he helped the team retain its shape. An integral part of a team with a clear narrative, where players knew their role when it was at its best. Simple was all he needed. Energy and speed was elsewhere.

"then I'm afraid you are either mistaken or obsessed"

Says the one who has turned a thread about SOD in to a thread about LJ, a player who left 2 seasons ago?

If Redprintt is mistaken then so are a good percentage of our fans, Cos I personally thought he wasn't good enough for the level as well, despite your ability to look back with rose tinted spectacles, most fans had pinpointed him as a weak link in that side and were vocal in their opinions about replacing him, The reason Johnson brought in Carle, then played him out of position to accommodate LJ, a trait he continued with Evander Sno.

No one can criticise LJ's commitment to us or his work rate, really nice bloke too.But I think things could have been very different for the better, without him.

Then enjoy the success we have reaped without him then.
I think that until Sean arrived our downfall has been attributable largely to armchair managers with big mouths crying nepotism who (being kind here) know little about the game.

Obsessed I am - about BCFC and trying to see benefits and avoid mistakes.

Mistakes have been made and accusations have been aimed at people who have done nothing wrong.

There isn't really an LJ debate going on here - more a football debate. It is a very real possibility that GJ may take his Yeovil side to the Championship as we slip down.

I REALLY hope that doesn't happen.

One more thing, you mention that a large percentage of our fans held the same view as RP - possibly true, but that is surely proof that fans make crap managers.
    I include myself here.
I have a very strong opinion, backed up by stats, but football isn't my day job and I only consume what it produces.

Not necessarily Shiny, there will be a LOT of youngsters release by the Premier league clubs in the summer and in fact, you may have noticed that we have already recruited some into our development squad last November i.e. Toby Ajala (Fulham), Curtis Jones (Celtic), Tom King (Stoke, Liverpool and Australia), Kevin Krans (Fulham), Luke Dobie, (Boro and Everton) and I expect more of these too...

Clearly not all are going to make it but if we can pick one or 2 jewels out of these then we will have a good base going forward - oh, and before anyone says why are they good enough for us, remember that BCFC let the first British £1m player in the shape of Trevor Francis slip through their fingers at the age of 16 as someone at the club didn't rate him.

Opinions are a very subjective thing......

Re Trevor Francis and Brum City; did we not have Jack Butland as a schoolboy before he went to Brum City? We must do better than this in future and give the Reids, Bryans and Burns of our Academy enough opportunities to progress their careers with BCFC rather than elsewhere.

Well that would depend on whether you happen to agree with the majority at the time? Can I ask what superior football qualifications you hold to assume people who hold a different opinion to you are "armchair managers with big mouths" ??

This thread did not contain any mention of any of the Johnsons until brought up by you, I would suggest you need to let it go now, the majority aren't missing him anywhere near the same level as you are to be honest.

It's been done to death and quite frankly its ****in boring and old hat...

SOD's found a way to win at home but away I'm afraid we've been pants in the last four. The problem is in playing to deep and offering nothing in the final third-Hence no goals from a City Player and the games at Cardiff & Palace were like giant games of attack & defence.

Pick the same team and play the same way as we did v Barnsley-Pick a stronger bench including Carey, Skuse & Baldock and, hopefully, things will improve.

Now, on loans, we still need some quality at CB and a Target Man in case Stead's injured with Ryan Taylor out for another month.

We're OK with a fully fit squad but that's a rarity and if we're serious about staying in the NPC we need to strengthen or get far better luck with injuries.

Regretfully, I can't see Sean getting the money to do it and a midfielder like Tunnicliffe who Barnsley got would be dead handy.

I fear you are right here BB. SOD won't get any money - but if you read his comments he doesn't want to take on any players with a steep learning curve either.
I find his comments on Albert particularly interesting.

We may ultimately still go down, but my goodness I am pleased we have Sean at the helm. If anyone can guide us clear its him. There is no manager in this div I would rather have in charge.

I think that if S O'D identified the player/players he wanted on loan we would try and get them but what S O'D is saying is that atm the players available are not going to significantly improve the squad enough to make the training up of them worthwhile if there was a Caulker out there available he would go for him but so ar he hasn't seen the player/players that we could sign that he wants. As I said before we got him you either play his way or you don't play.

Spot on Hawk, and that is one of the reasons I loved GJ. Zero tolerance. I was accused of spoiling the thread earlier (i probably didnt explain myself very well) but I really admired Sir Gary and his principles and I think we have a very similar manager in Sean - which is something I am really very excited about.

I wonder if MacFadzean of Crawley got back to full fitness before transfer deadline day, would SO'D bring him in on loan with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer - whichever division we are in by then. He did make the right noises about him when he arrived in January.
He's not back yet though for Crawley who only had 6 on the bench v Brentford recently.

    'I really admired Sir Gary'
Bully boy GJ - do as I say or we'll have a fight.
Or better still I'll move you on (Ryan Harley,Carle etc - no prizes which position they played).
Johnson got by on threats because that's what Bully's do, it might be next season but it will end in tears at YTFC.
Threats last for a while in any management but in the end it will come crashing down on him.
    And I'll 'Kevin Keegan' it.

'and his principles and I think we have a very similar manager in Sean' ??? -
Thankfully there's never been more contrasting personalities.

Funny how fans of the same club can see things so differently. I'll always remember GJ fondly for being the most successful Bristol City manager of the last 30 years. Absolutely love the bloke!!

Do you mean the public or private GJ?

SOD is very different to GJ who, by the end of his reign had really lost the plot and the dressing room (Check out the run of results prior to his sacking and afterwards)

GJ was the right man at the right time but just lacked the ability to deal with well paid players.Up to £250k he was usually good-Beyond that and it rarely worked out.
