Norwich haven't even done that though, they've mainly signed proven players from lower levels and stuck with a lot of the lads who got them promoted. There's clearly more to it than just who's the richest.
No doubt you need good players but Bruce's experience would stand us in good stead I would have thought
Cardiff have reached the carling and fa cup finals in the last 5 years. Are we happy? No not really. As for playing well in the championship and automatically getting promoted ... how many years does that take? This place is like treacle. You can get as close as you like and still slip back at the death. The longer you try to fund life in the championship the more chance you will end up in administration and league one. I dont see too many prem sides hoping they get into the championship. In the cups you suddenly find yourself in the latter stages, fielding your best side wont simply get you to a final. jck
Thing is, every game we play you want us to win, whether that be Peter Boro, or Middles Boro, or L**ds or who ever. If you do that often enough, like we did under Browny, and are doing under Bruce, you end up at the top of the pile. That by definition means ultimately the Premier League. Have to say I think this season has almost been on a par with that first season in the Prem.
Now here's a post that offers a decent view of life in the Championship (Thanks ). We shy away from the cups, why? Is it the prospect of fatigue? Rotate the squad. Is it the fear of injuries? We get them anyway. We want excitement, so make the cup work for us - it's a spectator event, preferably a family one. A happy 12th man lifts any team and that carries over. We have (football per se) become immune to occasion and competition, we seem to measure everything by the end financial result, but it is the journey that is the thrill, or to use that recurring word, it's the excitement; but you have to make an effort to create it. I would love to follow my team to Europe, just as I would love to follow them to a FA Cup final at Wembley (change the semis venue!), the journey to each, however far we get, would be great if taken seriously by one and all. The only true way to be a winner is not being prepared to lose - it's an insidious failing that takes over and loses the appeal of the feint-hearted.
If we stay in the championship and end up settling for mid table mediocrity in the way the 60's/70's side did for a relatively stable 13 years, our crowds will go the same way - slowly but irrevocably down..
^^^^^ Utter nonsense. For a start this years team is far more PL ready football wise. We shall just need some more proven goal scorers in the summer. MAYBE RAID THE CLUBS THAT DONT GO UP. Also, The PL is not as strong as the one we left 3 years ago. Take away the top 8/9 clubs and its very much an even match. I actually think we would do much better than last time with more goals in the squad. But we need to get there first. I also said the championship is a better watch for excitement and drama but the PL is where its at. Well at least the wonga and world wide tv exposure it is.
