Again it was a speculation that the rule was allowed for this year. AMuS put 2+2 together and got 7 with RBR and Renault. Apart from Renault supposedly asking for clarification from the FIA (whenever they did) all you got was Brawn believing they might of did it with the layout of the exhaust. It also affects Ferrari and Mercedes engines as well since they are not allowed to change theirs either. And since the RB9 is not that much different to last year I don't see the issue here since they were fast with this new map idea anyway. Like I said a few days ago, it would of been very foolish by a team of RBR's standards and resources to be lead on by Renault on a dead end of EBD methods which has been raped multiple times by the rule makers. Wouldn't make sense to leave something that important last minute in a conversation "Oh by the way can we use a new map pretty please?" with RBR and Lotus in the final stages of their designs hoping this one rule will stick. Called sport suicide IMO, the gains are totally outweighed by the punishment if they fail. It sounds more like Renault asked about this certain rule "grey area" and the FIA said no openly. AMuS road on the story and tried to make something more of it, eventhough they forget Renault are under constant pressure from RBR to find more "power".
Well either way - whilst speculation at the moment - it appears that the general thoughts of all people in the know is that Red Bull are a second clear of everybody! If correct we are going to have a pretty **** season.
If Red Bull are 1 second ahead of everybody else (which I doubt) I blame Mclaren. It sounds like a petty reason but IMO they had the chance to have a great car for the start of the season which even Lewis said it would be. He said this year's car was an evolution of last year's. So why they technically started from scratch again with the rules pretty much stable baffles me. I hope it's not going to be 2011 all over again. We want close racing and more importantly I think it's safe to say most of us want new champions!
If true, I'll be hitting the TV "Off" button, don't mind who wins, just want a close battle, no repeats of 2000-2004 and 2011 please!
In relation to Mclaren, if their new car is that bad (which I doubt) surely they should just revert to last years car, at least they know what to expect.
Let me get this straight.. Benson is a fool.. agreed? OK, having said that, he has just tweeted that Renault may indeed have/been using a "dodgy" engine map and that map aligned with their rear body work could be a reason for much of the gains. FIA have apparently told them its not allowed.. We'll see in the next test if that was one of the main reasons for their speed, I for one hope so, bunch everyone together, with tyres that not even Prost could nurse and give us 8 winners from 8 races this year please!

2011 was fun as a Seb fan, it wasn't because the car driver combo was so **** hot that year, it was because McLaren, Ferrari and Webber made it so easy to win that year, it was the Seb show! Pole and win, pole and win and in a way I found it more funny than boring. Apart from Nurburgring and the last lap in Canada, the amount of things going Sebs way was silly! Everything that Seb wanted to happen, happened! Main title rivals crashing into each other, safety cars, drivers struggling with tyres, different podium finishers, bad luck for Webber, *sighs* he was right that season will never happen again! Never have I seen so much go one persons way and it wasn't luck, it was just the rest kept tripping over each other. Alonso last season got close but the only difference Sebs bad luck hardly damaged his WDC because he already won the WDC before Abu Dhabi. But I might be able to stomach another 2011 since the race for 2nd was still good
All assumptions by AMuS because of RBR and Lotus looking quick, not actually confirmed it exists or actually happend though. Ferrari and Mercedes are understood to know the rule, but surprise surprise the 400 people at Renault didn't? Hmmm....
Must disagree with your there Silver... Second is first loser, I don't enjoy seeing sports to see who'll come in second.. Bernie loves money... if we get another bore-fest, people will switch off (not the die hard fans), people switching off means advertisers don't get their moneys worth, they don't get that, they pull out, they pull out, more teams go up ****e creak without a paddle. Which could lead to less teams or teams not being able to pay Bernie to come and play his game, so, if he's got any sense, I suggest he break into the RBR garage a few times this season and put a bowl of fruit up the RB9s exhaust!
