And twice more in last season's tournament! <grr>

We've played them three times in the two seasons we've been in the NextGen Series and they have taken us apart every single time. Think we've scored one goal and they've scored twelve! <laugh> <doh>

Watch out for Carlos Mané. He's a winger/striker and got two of Sporting's goals against us on Wednesday and looks their biggest threat.

Should be a good game though!

Tottenham Hotspur 4 (Fryers, Dombaxe (pen)), Munns (2)) Arsenal 2 (Akpom (2))

Found the score on an Arsenal blog. Well done Young Yiddos <applause>

That'll do nicely for the first team! Nice to see Fryers opening his account, too.
From what I can work out of our line up, Miles, Fryers, Dombaxe, Munns, Parrett, McEvoy, Byrne and Gallifuoco started. Not sure who else.
Edit: Miles; Fryers, Gallifuoco, Stewart, Byrne; Luongo, Veljkovic, Parrett; McEvoy, Dombaxe, Munns.

The U18 Goonlets also got hammered 6-0 by Villa. What happened to their youth system?

They had Fabianski in goal too. I know he's a bit of a joke these days but it's impressive to see our young players beat an international and Premier League 'keeper 4 times.

What youth system? All their prospects are poached from other clubs.

  6. Good news indeed - hopefully another nail in the fast-developing Gooner coffin.... Now, come on Villa and really make it a day for the to forget!!

A larger crowd than usual at the training ground this morning to see a game which could quite easily have been 6-6 or maybe even 8-8.

We started very sluggishly and didn't seem to have any real shape or balance. Quite how we survived this indifferent start only a goal down was down to the woodwork and Jonathan Miles plus a slice of good fortune. Veljkovic and Gallifuoco struggled to cope wth the turn of pace and direct runnng of Chuba Akpom who looks a real prospect for Arsenal and thoroughly earned his two goals.

Another player who thoroughly earned his two goals was our Jack Munns who worked his wotsits off all game. He's only about 4 feet tall but on the floor he turned his markers time after time.

Even though we had sorted ourselves out after 20 minutes or so, we never really looked a top of the league side until the second half, when 2 substitutions gave us more balance and allowed Luongo and Parrett to utilise their strengths and Kenneth "mini Bale" McEvoy was running riot down the right hand side. At 3-1 we were comfortable until another defensive balls up presented Arsenal with a chance to be back in the game and the feeling was they might get an equaliser, but a qualiity through ball from Parrett allowed Munns to clinch the game.

Excellent performances from McEvoy and Munns and another impressive game from the improving Nathan Byrne. At the back Fryers, Veljkovic and Gallifuoco all look comfortable in possession but do have a lot of defensive learning to do and whilst Luongo was subdued early on, he and Parrett had a strong grip on the middle in the second half, although Parrett did get an unnecessary yellow card for a touch of handbags.

An entertaining morning, there's nothing quite as satisfying as beating Arsenal.

Thank god you've cleared that up! All the different youth/reserve competitions confuse the crap out of me.

Poor defending on our part for both goals conceded, but what a quality ball from Dean Parrett for our final goal.

I was at the far end of the ground and it wasn't until seeing these highlights that I appreciated just what a tidy finish it was by Fryers for his goal.

Good to see Jack Munns playing well, there aren't enough chances in football given to Hobbits.

    <laugh>.

He's a midfield player usually, who generally plays in one of the 3 in a 4231 formation. Has great ability to keep the ball in tight situations. He went out on loan to Aldershot a while back but was never used and it knocked his confidence a bit. Hopefully his 2 goals on Saturday will give him a boost.

True, but I thought that their second goal was quite an obvious foul.
Should never have ended up in that position anyway, but Akpom gets away with a blatant shirt pull, as the ref's miles away from it.
Stupid passing around at the back like that when under no pressure, though.

No, you hadn't already posted it PNP.

Incidentally, if anyone ever wonders why there are never spectators behind the goals, it's because Spurs only allow spectators to watch from the touchline opposite the camera. Anyone else you glimpse in other areas are club staff.

Those little Goonlets must have relished the opportunity to play at a world class training facility.
