My question is do we stick with the players we have for next season and for arguments sake only bring in a maximum of 2 signings in the Summer or do you twist and feel that we need to bring in more quality and buy 4 or 5 players?

    Before you answer consider this.

We have some very good young players and they need to play if they are to develop, it's no good the likes of Sterling, Suso, Wisdom and even Kelly sitting on our bench for another season. They could play in the League Cup and at times in Europa and FA Cup but is that enough?

So at the moment my choice for a first eleven would be........

    Reina
    Johnson
    Skrtel
    Agger
    Enricky
    Lucas
    Gerrard
    Hendo
    Coutinho
    Suarez
    Sturridge

Lets not get into debate on this though.

We need to also give playing time to....

    Suso
    Teixeria
    Kelly
    Wisdom
    Shelvey
    Allen
    Sterling
    Assiadi
    Borini

Sorry if I missed anyone and I am aware of other potential stars.

So buying 2 players gives us 11 players that we need to rotate.

I don't think that the current bunch who are trying to get into the first team are quite ready, they may improve over pre-season and step up but I have my doubts. However if we stick with this squad and allow all these players time in the first team and therefore develop them all it would save us a lot of money and allow us to concentrate on quality signings other than quantity.

Do we take this chance or do we sell players like Downing and Skrtel and bring in 4 or 5 players?

We dont need drastic changes. A team is doing well to establish itself now. 2 teams really as we have 2 systems.

    ------------Reina-------------
    Johnson-Skrtel--Agger-Enrique-
    ------Gerrard----Lucas--------
    ---Downing-Suarez-Coutinho---
    -----------Sturridge-----------

    ------------Reina-------------
    Johnson-?????--Agger-Enrique-
    ------------Lucas-------------
    -------Gerrard--Henderson-----
    --Coutinho----------Suarez----
    ------------Sturridge----------

I left out a center back spot and some debates exist on Downing. But other than that that team is strong. My biggest concerns are when plays are injured. We need two quality players in every position.

Out of that line up we have Kelly, Skrtel, Wisdom, Allen, Shelvey, Borini, Sterling, Suso, Assaidi and Jones. But that list contains almost no goals what so ever and lacks muscle. It also does not fill every position.

I say stick with the foundation, but twist the rest to add to it.

I think that top team looks great for more open oppositions and park the bus teams.

The bottom team is good for closer, tighter teams.

  6. JK...

Interesting that you omit Skrtel from both line-ups but select Downing in the first

my answer is simple enough... it depends on who is available to genuinely improve and how much money.

I would rather we do not but dross but buy quality. especially at the back... i'd rahter wisdom and kelly and robinson be given a go than we ned up with a kyriagkos again.

Daydo is right about 5 and sell the dead wood types but can we?

I think we need to prioritise and hope we don't lose real talent over how long it takes.

my priorities are based on nobody like reina/suarez leaving.

    1. CB. buy my a new hyppia please, i don't want passers, i don't want sweepers, i don't want style... I want a big man who'll dominate. surely 7mil will buy a good un somewhere.

    2. Striker. we need to sell carroll on and buy someone decent. no more borinis. another 10-15mil here... surely we can get carroll out for that.

    3. Centre midfield. Everyone knows my views on mr shelvey and his mouth. But in reality i think gerrard still needs rests no matter what people say (don't think shrot term from here to may!) and henderson should be rotated with him. I thought rotate shevely but his mouth is too much. Needs to be an alonso tpye not a sissoko type. I'd hope we can sell downing to cover this one.

    these depend on cash!

    4. left full cover. arbeloa type frankly. 5mil max spend.

    5. Goal keeper. agin 3-4mil max spend.

in the end i think we can go close to zero net spend if we want to next summer as long as we do get some value out of downing and carroll.. I think we spent the summer budget this january... I hope not but it could be the case!

i see a total of maybe 10mil net spend in any case.

Twist. We need at least 4 additions

    In
    CB
    RW
    CM
    Backup striker
    Backup CB

    Out
    Shelvey - loan
    Suso - loan
    Downing - sell
    Coates - sell
Hendo - sell. There, I said it!
    Carragher - retiring

    My option is to stick.

I would like us to cash in on Skrtel sell Downing and Carroll and then buy a center back and Striker there should be good money available for those 2 players.

I would then put my faith in the other younger players stepping up to the mark over the next couple of seasons.

I actually think this summer we could get £10mil for him if he continues to start for us, and I think that is a good deal for a player that (I hope) will be a substitute next season and that I don't feel will ever become a more intelligent player for us, a part of his game he severely lacks

If we sell Henderson we might as well sell Sterling and Wisdom and give up on a brighter future. Henderson stays.

A striker would be my top priority.

Henderson is 22. Sterling is 18. Henderson should be fulfilling his potential now to be quite frank. When we bought him from Sunderland he was tipped to be a major player for England and looked promising. Could you honestly say that that is still the case almost 2 years later?

Your right that is interesting. I must have been crazy. I have no explanation. I do like Skrtel, I'd hate to see him go.

Care to elaborate? Do you feel Henderson has vision and intelligence?
