Why can't Brownie get a managers job? Is it because of the Man City show or his man management skills or what?
Football is a very tightly knit community and everyone knows everything about everyone else. People talk and a lot of people didnt like Phil unfortunately. Another thought I have is it comes down to every time he applies for a job he tells the world he has applied for it and Chairmen really dont like someone who blabs to the media about all and sundry. It worries them that all kinds of news will get out.
Were it not for the half time team talk, singing on the pitch, according to people who don't like him and us he constantly 'makes a fool of himself' just because he has said a couple of daft things getting his words mixed up and making up his own words at times. I'm not saying I agree with them, I feel for Phil, he's always meant well. And we can't argue with the job he did for us.
Even now he still runs off at the mouth too much, you'd think he'd have learnt his lesson. He's good as a pundit so at least he has some kind of career still. If I was him I would try coaching again instead of management but I guess most other managers wouldn't like him around now, he even got into management himself that way when Parkinson got the chop.
Precisely. No manager would ever take him as a number 2 now, he'd be too much of a threat to their position.
This has been done to death, but perhaps it's because any sensible chairman knows that PB got lucky by bringing in Campbell on loan and bringing Deano back, which was always a safe bet, and other than that the guy & his ego are a complete non entity in a football management sense. You really don't want me to list ALL of the reasons that any sensible chairman wouldn't touch him with a bargepole do you?
It's too big a risk really. If they take him on as Manager, and it goes wrong, the Club would get branded 'stupid' for hiring him in the first place. Because of his antics and poor decisions whilst with us, it's ruined his future Career options.
Phil is a character if nothing else, and the game really benefits from people like him. Though i'm sure we'd all prefer to have Nigel Adkins as boss, the man is like watching paint dry. Nigel Pearson, same. Browns c.v in the game,is'nt so bad either is it ? Although some will always prefer to point to his failings,it would be remiss of me (see what i did there) to ignore, not only the promotion to the Epl with a club that had never seen it before, but also the fact he kept us in this league,in his first half a season, when it seemed there was no hope. I for one would love to see him back in management, just maybe not at this club.
How was bringing Deano back lucky ? It may have seemed like a no brainer to you,but don't you remember we could have had him back far earlier,if Peter Tayor had'nt thought he wouldn't be good for us ? "He would'nt fit in next to Nick Barmby" Blah blah bolloks....
Yep, I remember PT having all the chances to bring back Deano but, in all likelihood, was probably frightened of him, thinking he'd be too big a character. For Brown to do it, and to use your words, it was a no brainer. We were struggling at the wrong end of the table at the time therefore anything that was available that could help, let alone a Hull City legend, would have been looked upon as a chance of relegation redemption and, in Deano's case, probably wouldn't have cost a fortune. In respect of Deano, the luck factor, as far as Brown is concerned, is that he was still available! Yes Brown still had to agree to it, but with very little potential downside, as I've said, it was a no brainer, and, as I remember it was his goal at Cardiff that saved us from League 1...................whilst relegating TWS.
He still is undoubtedly our greatest ever manager in success terms. But I can't help but think it was really just a flash in the pan. With the question most in football asking not being 'why can't he get another job?' but becoming more like 'how on earth did he do so well at Hull?' I think there potentially is a good manager in him as we've seen. But he just does not learn from past mistakes.
Could not agree more with you. You cannot even give PB the credit for FC as that was down to Brian Horton in the main. Brown was the Swanny for BBC manchester on saturday and i had to turn him off before half time. Talk about blowing smoke up Boltons back sides. As if he had never had any involvement with Hull City. His classic when the 3rd goal went in was ""Its just like watching Barcelona"" FFS Brownie. Is Phil Brown the Murray Walker of Football ? at least Murray Walker has class.
And THIS ^ is a perfect example, amongst MANY, MANY valid reasons, of why the bloke's a full on coont! Let's not go down this road again. It's quite simple, some have, and seemingly always will have, him on a pedestal as some kind of footballing management god , then others, like myself, and seemingly his old mucker Sam Allardyce, yeah I wonder why too, wouldn't give the ****er a job sweeping their stadium!
Apart from his big mouth he has no idea on how to manage a professional football team.He lacks man management skills,is devoid of a plan B and is too full of his own importance. He tried to follow the "Big Sam" approach and failed miserable.
